Film Producer
A film producer is a person who oversees film production. Either employed by a production company or working independently, producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, such as selecting the script, coordinating writing, directing, editing, and arranging financing. The producer is responsible for finding and selecting promising material for development. Unless the film is based on an existing script, the producer hires a screenwriter and oversees the script's development. These activities culminate with the pitch, led by the producer, to secure the financial backing that enables production to begin. If all succeeds, the project is "greenlighted". The producer also supervises the pre-production, principal photography and post-production stages of filmmaking. A film distributor is responsible for the Film promotion, marketing of a film. The distribution company may be the same with, or different from, the production company. Distribution deals are an important part of financing a film. The distributor may set the film release, release date of a film and the method by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing; for example, directly to the public either theatrically or for home viewing (DVD, Video on demand, video-on-demand, download, television programs through broadcast syndication etc.). A distributor may do this directly, if the distributor owns the theaters or film distribution networks, or through theatrical exhibitors and other sub-distributors. Jeff Dowd
Jeff Dowd (born November 20, 1949) is an American film producer and political activist. Biography He was a member of the "Seattle Seven," who were jailed for contempt of court following a violent protest against the Vietnam War. He later moved to Los Angeles and became an independent movie producer and promoter, producing such films as ''Zebrahead''. He met the Coen brothers while they were promoting their first film, ''Blood Simple'', and is the basis for their character Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski from ''The Big Lebowski''. In 2009, Dowd was involved in an altercation with movie critic John Anderson at the Sundance Film Festival, after Anderson panned ''Dirt! The Movie'', a film Dowd produced. Anderson was eating breakfast when Dowd reportedly confronted him, and then incited a food fight and brief melee at the Yarrow Hotel Restaurant. Dowd did not press charges. Ben Yennie
Ben Yennie is an American producer's representative, speaker, author, and entrepreneur working at the intersection of technology and film. He's helped to package, finance, market, and distribute 15 films to date, generally receiving the title of executive producer for his role as a producer's rep. He has written three books to date (most notably a guide to the American Film Market and a macroeconomic study of the film industry), co-founded a film oriented project management company called ProductionNext, and is also known as a blogger, and event organizer.
