''Proctoporus xestus'', or the river teiid, is a species of lizard in the Family (biology), family Gymnophthalmidae. The species is Endemism, endemic to South America. Geographic range ''P. xestus'' occurs from central Peru to Bolivia (Chuquisaca Department, Chuquisaca, Cochabamba Department, Cochabamba, and Santa Cruz Department (Bolivia), Santa Cruz departments) and northern Argentina (Jujuy Province, Jujuy, and Salta Province, Salta provinces). Habitat The preferred natural habitats of ''P. xestus'' are Yungas forest and wet montane grassland, at elevations of above sea level. Description ''P. xestus'' may attain a Snout-vent length, snout-to-vent length (SVL) of . The tail length is almost twice the SVL.Thomas Marshall Uzzell, Jr., Uzzell (1969).
