Prix Iris Public Prize
The Public Prize (french: Prix Public is an annual film award, presented by Québec Cinéma as part of its annual Prix Iris, to honour the most popular film of the year among film audiences in Quebec. First presented in 1999 as part of the Prix Jutra, the award was known as the Billet d'or ("Golden Ticket"), and was presented to the film that had been the most successful at the box office. When the awards program was relaunched as the Prix Iris, the ''Billet d'or'' was relaunched as the Prix Public, which now sees the five top-grossing films of the year submitted to a public vote to award the film that was most liked by audiences. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada and its effects on film distribution in 2020, the 23rd Quebec Cinema Awards in 2021 did not limit the award to only the five top-grossing films of the year, but allowed the public to vote for their favourite among all 16 Quebec films that had received any commercial screenings at all in the previous year. Québec Cinéma
Québec Cinéma is a Canadian organization based in Quebec, whose mission is to promote and develop the Cinema of Quebec. The organization's programs include the Prix Iris, the annual film awards for Quebec films; the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma, an annual film festival; the Lab Québec Cinéma, which works with schools to facilitate the use of Quebec films in educational contexts; and Tournée Québec Cinéma, which presents an annual touring minifestival of Quebec films in English Canadian cities where French-language films from Quebec would not otherwise receive theatrical distribution. Jean-Marc Vallée
Jean-Marc Vallée (March 9, 1963December 25, 2021) was a Canadian filmmaker, film editor, and screenwriter. After studying film at the Université de Montréal, Vallée went on to make a number of critically acclaimed short films, including ''Stéréotypes'' (1991), ''Les Fleurs magiques'' (1995), and ''Les Mots magiques'' (1998). His debut feature, ''Black List'' (1995), was nominated for nine Genie Awards, including nods for Vallée's direction and editing. His fourth feature film, '' C.R.A.Z.Y.'' (2005), received further critical acclaim and was a financial success. He was such a perfectionist, and budgets were so tight, the film took almost ten years to make. Vallée's follow-up, ''The Young Victoria'' (2009), garnered strong reviews and received three Academy Award nominations. The 8th Jutra Awards were held on March 19, 2006 to honour films made with the participation of the Quebec film industry in 2005. Happy Camper (film)
''Happy Camper'' (french: Camping sauvage) is a Canadian crime comedy film, directed by Sylvain Roy and Guy A. Lepage and released in 2004. The film stars Lepage as Pierre-Louis, an investment banker who is forced into witness protection after witnessing a crime committed by Jackhammer, the leader of a local biker gang. Jean-François Pouliot
Jean-François Pouliot (born 1957) is a Canadian film director from Quebec. He was born in Montreal and studied at Concordia University. He worked as an assistant cameraman, while also writing and directing short animated films for the National Film Board. In 1982, Pouliot joined the advertising firm Cossette Communication Marketing, where he twice won the Grand prix du Mondial de publicité francophone, a French language advertising award. In 1988, he began directing television ads. Pouliot directed a number of episodes of the CBC Television series ''Emily of New Moon''. Charles Binamé
Charles Binamé (born May 25, 1949) is a Quebec director. He was born in Belgium and came to Montreal with his family at a young age. He joined the National Film Board of Canada as an assistant director in 1971, but soon left for the private sector. During the 1970s, he mostly directed documentaries for Quebec television, and in the 1980s he directed over 200 television commercials, including some in England. When he returned to Canada in the early 1990s, he directed two of Quebec's most popular television series of all time, ''Blanche'' (the sequel to the series ''Les Filles de Caleb'') and ''Marguerite Volant''. The former won him seven Prix Gémeaux and the FIPA d'Or at Cannes Film Festival for best drama series.
