Prix Bordin
The Prix Bordin is a series of prizes awarded annually by each of the five institutions making up the Institut Français since 1835. History The prize was created by Charles-Laurent Bordin, a notary in Paris from 1794 to 1820, who bequeathed 12,000 Francs to the Institut de France in his testament dated April 7, 1835, for the foundation of an annual prize to be given to each of the five: * the Académie Française, in order to "encourage high literature"; the prize was given irregularly until 1988 * the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres * the French Academy of Sciences. The Institut Français (French capitalization, Institut français; "French institute") is a French public industrial and commercial organization (EPIC). ''Adolphe'' is a classic French novel by Benjamin Constant, first published in 1816. It tells the story of an alienated young man, Adolphe, who falls in love with an older woman, Ellénore, the Polish mistress of the Comte de P***. Their illicit relationship serves to isolate them from their friends and from society at large. The book eschews all conventional descriptions of exteriors for the sake of detailed accounts of feelings and states of mind. Constant began the novel on 30 October 1806, and completed it some time before 1810. While still working on it he read drafts to individual acquaintances and to small audiences, and after its first publication in London and Paris in June 1816 it went through three further editions: in July 1816 (new preface), July 1824 in Paris (restorations to Ch. 8, third preface), and in 1828. Jules Gauthier (26 September 1892 – 15 December 1975) was a Liberal Party of Canada, Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He became a notary by career. Gauthier was educated at the Chicoutimi Seminary and at Université Laval where he received his Bachelor of Civil Law, degree in civil law (LLL). In 1942, he was mayor of Jonquière. Benjamin-Constant Martha, also known under the name Constant Martha, (1820–1895) was a 19th-century French moralist and historian of ancient morality. Elme Marie Caro (4 March 1826, Poitiers, Vienne13 July 1887, Paris) was a French philosopher. Life His father, a professor of philosophy, gave him an education at the Stanislas College and the École Normale, where he graduated in 1848. After being professor of philosophy at several provincial universities, he received the degree of doctor, and came to Paris in 1858 as master of conferences at the École Normale. In 1861 he became inspector of the Academy of Paris, in 1864 professor of philosophy to the Faculty of Letters, and in 1874 a member of the Académie Française.
