Private Terms Stakes
The Private Terms Stakes is a race for Thoroughbred horses held in late March at Laurel Park in Maryland, USA. The ungraded stakes race is open to three-year-olds, is run over one mile and an eighth on the dirt, and offers a purse of $150,000. It is a minor race on the road to the Triple Crown each spring. The winner of the Private Terms Stakes typically races next in either the Federico Tesio Stakes (Preakness Trial) at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore or the Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack in New York. This race is named for Private Terms (born 1985), who won 13 of his 17 starts, including the Grade I Wood Memorial Stakes, the Grade II Gotham Stakes, the grade two Massachusetts Handicap, the grade two General George Handicap and the grade three Federico Tesio Stakes. Laurel Park Racecourse
Laurel Park, formerly Laurel Race Course, is an American thoroughbred racetrack located just outside Laurel, Maryland which opened in 1911. The track is miles in circumference. Its name was changed to "Laurel Race Course" for several decades until returning to the "Laurel Park" designation in 1994. History Laurel Park Racecourse opened October 2, 1911 under the direction of the Laurel Four County Fair. In 1914, New York businessmen and prominent horsemen, Philip J. Dwyer and James Butler purchased the track and appointed Matt Winn as the general manager. In 1918 the field was used by Army Engineers as a training camp before deployment to France. In 1946, a stable fire broke out with 60 horses saved. In 1947, the Maryland Jockey Club, which owned Timonium and Pimlico, purchased Laurel Park from the Butler estate with the idea of shifting the Pimlico meeting to Laurel. Laurel is a city in Maryland, United States, located midway between Washington and Baltimore on the banks of the Patuxent River. While the city limits are entirely in northern Prince George's County, outlying developments extend into Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Howard counties. Magic Weisner
Magic Weisner (foaled in Maryland on May 3, 1999) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. A descendant of Bold Forbes, he was sired by Ameri Valay and bred by Nancy H. Alberts. Magic Weisner was a graded stakes winner but is best remembered for his runner-up finish in the 2002 Preakness Stakes and his serious public battle to overcome West Nile fever when little was known about the disease. Two-year-old season Nancy Alberts, also Magic Weisner's owner, trainer, and exercise rider, bred the horse from a mare named Jazema, which she bought as a yearling for $1 because of her crooked legs. In the late 1980s, Alberts lost Jazema twice in claiming races and bought her back both times. The final time she bought her back was for breeding. Alberts had commented that Jazema had a special eye for Ameri Valay because of seeing him around the barn area at Laurel Park. ''Olivers Twist'' is a 2002 television series featuring chef Jamie Oliver. The name of the program is a play on the title of Charles Dickens' novel ''Oliver Twist''. Following the popularity of his first TV series, ''The Naked Chef'', Oliver began producing ''Olivers Twist'' to be aired outside the UK. The show became a success — being aired in over 70 countries — and helped establish Oliver's global popularity.
