Prithipal Singh Gill
Colonel Prithipal Singh Gill (11 December 1920 – 5 December 2021) was an Indian military officer and centenarian known for being the only soldier in the Indian Armed Forces to have served in all three of its branches. Career Born in Patiala State on 11 December 1920, Gill studied at Government College Lahore. A passionate flyer, he earned a flying licence at Walton Airport in Lahore, and in 1942, without informing his family, joined the Indian Air Force. Commissioned a pilot officer, Gill was training on Harvard aircraft at Karachi when his father Harpal Singh Gill, an army officer, arranged for his transfer from the IAF as the family considered flying unsafe. Gill transferred to the Royal Indian Navy, and was commissioned a temporary sub-lieutenant in the gunnery branch of the Royal Indian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RINVR) on 25 January 1943. Colonel (India)
Colonel is a rank in the Indian Army. Like other armies, this rank is higher than lieutenant colonel and lower than a brigadier. It is equivalent to captain in the Indian Navy and group captain in the Indian Air Force. The Indian Army has followed the British Army rank system since India's independence from the British Empire in 1947. However, the St Edward's Crown in the rank insignia was replaced with the National Emblem of India, symbolising the sovereignty of the Government of India. Appointments Colonels in the Indian Army command battalion-sized units (infantry battalions, artillery regiments, armoured regiments). Until the 1980s, battalions (and equivalents) were commanded by a lieutenant colonel. Walton Airport
Walton Airport , also known as Walton Airfield, is situated near Model Town, 10 km (6 mi) from the city centre of Lahore, in Punjab province of Pakistan. It was founded in 1918 and is named after Sir Colonel Cusack Walton. The airport was active until 1962. It caters to general aviation and facilitates several flying clubs. The airport is one of the oldest airport in the country and is spread over 300 acres of area. History The airport was established in 1918. Later, it served as a British Army in World War II. In 1930, the Lahore Flying Club was established (then known as Northern India Flying Club) at the site for training of pilots and is the oldest such facility. The thirty acres of land was donated by four Hindu doctors, while the remaining 256 acres were leased from the Government of Punjab, British India. Assam Rifles
The Assam Rifles (AR) is a central paramilitary force responsible for border security, counter-insurgency, and maintaining law and order in Northeast India. It guards the Indo-Myanmar border.
