Pristimantis Ernesti
''Pristimantis ernesti'' is a species of frog in the family Strabomantidae. It is endemic to the summit of Sumaco, a volcano in the Napo Province, Ecuador. Its common name is Ernest's robber frog. It is named after Dr. Ernst Williams, a friend and colleague of the scientist that described the species. It is a little studied species. Description Males measure about in snout–vent length. Female size is unknown. The dorsum is coffee-coloured with dark gray markings, including a "W" mark on its upper back. Dorsal skin is glandular with prominent dorsolateral ridges. Habitat and conservation Its natural habitat is grassland and bushland on the summit of Sumaco. Herpetological sources cite the altitude as being about , although other sources give maximum elevation of to this mountain. Frog
A frog is any member of a diverse and largely Carnivore, carnivorous group of short-bodied, tailless amphibians composing the order (biology), order Anura (ανοὐρά, literally ''without tail'' in Ancient Greek). Sumaco
Sumaco is a symmetrical, isolated stratovolcano, that is set off from the main Ecuador volcanic axis. Its rocks are very distinct from those from most Andean volcanoes because of its lack of andesitic composition, in favour of basanite and phonolitic rock. Sumaco is heavily forested and contains a small cone in its broad summit crater. An historical eruption occurred around 1895 (± 30 years). Ecology Sumaco is isolated from the Cordillera Oriental by the lowland valley of the Cosanga and Quijos Rivers. There are more than 6000 species of vascular plants, including more than 90 endemic species. Napo () is a province in Ecuador. Its capital is Tena. The province contains the Napo River. The province is low developed without much industrial presence. The thick rainforest is home to many natives that remain isolated by preference, descendants of those who fled the Spanish invasion in the Andes, and the Incas years before. In 2000, the province was the sole remaining majority-indigenous province of Ecuador, with 56.3% of the province either claiming indigenous identity or speaking an indigenous language. The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (PUCE) (English: ''Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador'') is a Pontifical Catholic university founded in 1946 in Quito, Ecuador. Sumaco Napo-Galeras National Park ( es, Parque Nacional Sumaco Napo-Galeras) is a protected area in Ecuador situated in the Napo Province, Orellana Province and Sucumbíos Province. The highest point of the park is the Sumaco volcano that peaks at 3,732 m; the lowest altitude is 600 m. Fauna Some 280 birds species are known from the park, but the true number is probably much higher because the park is little explored. ''Pristimantis'' is a very large genus of frogs distributed in the southern Caribbean islands (Lesser Antilles) and in Central and South America from Honduras to northern Argentina and southern Brazil. With 596 described species (as of October 2022), the genus had more species than any other genus of vertebrate animals.
