Princess Elizabeth Avenue
Princess Elizabeth Avenue, is an arterial road in central Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, that runs on a southwest to northeast path, cutting through the city's normal grid pattern. It skirts just to the south of Blatchford (formerly Edmonton City Centre Airport), and passes Kingsway Mall and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. Prior to the opening of Yellowhead Trail in the early 1980s, Highway 16 followed Princess Elizabeth Avenue between 118 Avenue and 109 Street before continuing west on 111 Avenue. Prior to 1951, the street was called Portage Avenue. During the 1951 royal tour of Canada, the Princess Elizabeth and Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, visited Edmonton, and the street was renamed in her honour. In 1939, her father, King George VI, visited Edmonton, prompting the naming of the adjacent Kingsway (Avenue). Edmonton Light Rail Transit, commonly referred to as the LRT, is a light rail system in Edmonton, Alberta. Part of the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS), the system has 18 stations on two lines and of track. NAIT Station
NAIT station is an Edmonton Light Rail Transit station in Edmonton, Alberta. It serves the Metro Line. The station will be temporarily located north of Princess Elizabeth Avenue, on the south side of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology's swimming pool and hockey arena wing, before a permanent station is ultimately built after a long-term comprehensive land use plan of the Edmonton City Centre Airport lands are finalized. NAIT station is the northern terminus of the Metro Line. The station was closed for four months from April 28 to August 30, 2019 due to construction on the Capital Line which shares track with southern sections of the Metro Line. Because of delays that the construction is expected to cause, Edmonton Transit operated five car trains on the Metro Line.
