Encosta De Lago (27 October 1993 – 6 October 2018) was an Australian bred Thoroughbred racehorse that won three group races from eight starts including the Group One (G1), Vic Health Cup against older horses. He was the Leading sire in Australia during 2008 and 2009. He was a bay stallion with good conformation that was bred by Emirates Park (Vic) Pty Ltd. Encosta de Lago is by Fairy King (USA) a brother to Sadler's Wells, who has sired over 400 winners that have won over A$54.3 million. His dam, Shoal Creek (by Star Way (GB)), is a half-sister to Flying Spur and great granddaughter of the famous Northern Dancer mare, Fanfreluche (USA). Fairy King (1982–1999) was an American-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and a successful sire. Background A full brother to Sadler's Wells, he was bred and raced by Robert Sangster and associates. Out of the mare Fairy Bridge, he was sired by Northern Dancer who is regarded as the 20th century’s best sire of sires Racing career Fairy King made only one racing start and broke down with damage to a bone in his foot. Stud record Retired to Stud (animal), stud duty at the Coolmore Stud breeding operation in Ireland, Fairy King most often sired specialist milers. Initially he carried a low stud fee but success from his first crops led to him quickly being much in demand. Chestnut (coat)
Chestnut is a hair coat color of horses consisting of a reddish-to-brown coat with a mane and tail the same or lighter in color than the coat. Kelt Capital Stakes
The Livamol Classic is a Weight-for-age Thoroughbred horse race run at Hastings Racecourse in Hawke's Bay and was at one stage New Zealand's richest horse race. It is run at a distance of 2040m. The race is run in October. The weather in the Hawke's Bay's means the track conditions are usually excellent. The race is the part of the Triple Crown raced at Hastings Racecourse, along with: - the 1400m Tarzino Trophy which was previously known as the Makfi Challenge Stakes or Mudgway Stakes, and - the 1600m Arrowfield Stud Plate which was previously known as the Windsor Park Plate, Stony Bridge Stakes and Horlicks Plate. Desert Gold Stakes
The Desert Gold Stakes is a horse race held by the Wellington Racing Club at Trentham Racecourse named in honor of the great filly, Desert Gold. The horses taking part are 3 year-old fillies which race over 1600 metres. History The race was first held in 1947 when there was two Desert Gold Stakes, the first in January won by Indian Dawn and then another in October won by Regal Gem. It is now held on Wellington Cup day in late January. The race was previously held in March (2003-2005) and late October (up to 2001).
