''Princess, At Your Orders!'' (French: ''Princesse, à vos ordres!'') is a 1931 German romantic comedy film directed by Hanns Schwarz and Max de Vaucorbeil and starring Lilian Harvey, Henri Garat and Jean Mercanton.Crisp p.26 It was produced by UFA, as the French-language version of the studio's film '' Her Grace Commands''. Such multiple-language versions were common in the early years of sound before dubbing became widespread. The film's sets were designed by the art director Erich Kettelhut. Hanns Schwarz
Hanns Schwarz (11 February 1888 – 27 October 1945) was an Austrian Empire, Austrian film director. He was born in Vienna on 11 February 1888. Biography He directed twenty four films between 1924 and 1937 in both English-language, English and German-language, German. During the late silent film, silent and early sound era, sound eras, he was a leading director at the large German studio Universum Film AG, UFA. In the early 1930s he worked on several Multiple-language version, multi-language version films for UFA, producing the same films in distinct German and foreign-language versions. Schwarz was Jewish and was therefore forced to leave Germany in 1933 when the Nazis took over, going into exile in Britain. His last film was the 1937 British thriller ''Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel''. He died in California on 27 October 1945. ''Her Grace Commands'' (german: Ihre Hoheit befiehlt) is a 1931 German romantic comedy film directed by Hanns Schwarz and starring Käthe von Nagy, Willy Fritsch and Reinhold Schünzel. It is also translated into the alternative title ''Her Highness Commands''. It was shot at the Babelsberg Studios with sets designed by the art director Erich Kettelhut. It premiered in Mannheim on 3 March 1931, before being released at the Gloria-Palast in Berlin the next day. A French-language version ('' Princess, At Your Orders!'') was produced simultaneously, also directed by Schwarz but with a different cast. The film was remade in Hollywood as well, retitled '' Adorable'', and released by the Fox Film Corporation in 1933. The Comedian Harmonists were an internationally famous, all-male German close harmony ensemble that performed between 1928 and 1934 as one of the most successful musical groups in Europe before World War II. The group consisted of Harry Frommermann ( tenor buffo), Asparuh "Ari" Leschnikoff (first tenor), Erich Collin (second tenor), Roman Cycowski ( baritone), Robert Biberti ( bass), and Erwin Bootz (pianist). His early career was defined by a working relationship with fellow designers Otto Hunte and Karl Vollbrecht, the trio working on many of Fritz Lang's early German films.
