Prince was a federal electoral district in Prince Edward Island, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1968. History This riding was created in 1903 from parts of East Prince and West Prince ridings. It was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed into Egmont and Malpeque ridings. It consisted of the County of Prince. James William Richards
James William Richards (May 31, 1850 – March 9, 1915) was a businessman, ship-owner and politician in Canada. From 1873 to 1908 he represented 2nd Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, Canada, as a Conservative and then Liberal member. Past Canadian Electoral Districts
This is a list of past arrangements of Canada's electoral districts. Each district sends one member to the House of Commons of Canada. In 1999 and 2003, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario was elected using the same districts within that province. 96 of Ontario's 107 provincial electoral districts, roughly those outside Northern Ontario, remain coterminous with their federal counterparts. This is a list of Canada's 338 federal electoral districts (commonly referred to as '' ridings'' in Canadian English) as defined by the ''2013 Representation Order''. Canadian federal electoral districts are constituencies that elect members of Parliament to Canada's House of Commons every election. Provincial electoral districts often have names similar to their local federal counterpart, but usually have different geographic boundaries. Canadians elected members for each federal electoral district most recently in the 2021 federal election on . There are four ridings established by the British North America Act of 1867 that have existed continuously without changes to their names or being abolished and reconstituted as a riding due to redistricting: Beauce (Quebec), Halifax (Nova Scotia), Shefford (Quebec), and Simcoe North (Ontario). Lorne Monkley
George Lorne Monkley (June 24, 1914 – March 8, 1997) was a civil servant and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 5th Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1960 to 1963 as a Progressive Conservative. He was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, the son of Edward H. Monkley and Mae MacDonald. Monkley was secretary-treasurer for Amalgamated Dairies Ltd. In 1939, he married Edna Jane Champion. Monkley served in the armed forces during World War II. After the war, he was a director for the Hillcrest Housing Company which managed housing at CFB Summerside. Monkley served as Clerk of the Legislative Assembly before being elected to office. He resigned his seat in the provincial assembly in 1963 to run for a federal seat. Monkley later served as chairperson for the province's Civil Service Commission. Orville Howard Phillips (April 5, 1924 – April 24, 2009) was a Canadian dental surgeon, politician, and senator. Early life Born in O'Leary, Prince Edward Island, the son of J. S. and Maude Phillips, he received his D.D.S. from Dalhousie University in 1952. Career He practised dentistry for many years. In 1957, he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada representing the riding of Prince. A member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, he served as Member of Parliament (MP) until 1962. In 1963, he was appointed to the Senate, representing the senatorial division of Prince, Prince Edward Island. John Watson MacNaught, (June 19, 1904 – December 25, 1984) was a Canadian politician. Born in Coleman, Prince Edward Island, he was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada representing the riding of Prince in the 1945 federal election. James Layton Ralston
James Layton Ralston (September 27, 1881 – May 22, 1948) was a Canadian lawyer, soldier and politician. Biography Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Ralston graduated from law school at Dalhousie University in 1903 and practised law in Amherst. Ralston was the federal Liberal candidate for Cumberland in the 1908 federal election but was unsuccessful in being elected. He subsequently entered public life when he ran as the provincial Liberal candidate for Cumberland and was elected in the 1911 provincial election. He was re-elected in 1916. Ralston served in World War I as an officer in the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders), rising to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1918, and was decorated for bravery. Alfred Alexander Lefurgey (April 22, 1871 – November 11, 1934) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, the son of John Lefurgey, Lefurgey was educated at St. Dunstan's College, Mount Allison University (B.A. in 1891) and Harvard Law School (LL.B in 1894). He returned to Summerside where he entered his father's ship building and shipping business with his brother, John Ephraim.
