''Prime Time'' is the debut album by NFL Hall of Famer and MLB star Deion Sanders, released in December 1994, on Hammer's Bust It Records. The album peaked at No. 70 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 14 on the Top Heatseekers. Album history The album was released on December 26, 1994, by Capitol Records, via Hammer's Bust It Records label. Despite universally negative reviews, the album reached No. 70 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and No. 14 on the Top Heatseekers. "Must Be the Money", a take on Secret Weapon's 80s hit "Must Be the Music", was the only single released, but failed to make it on the charts. Sanders performed a medley of songs from the album (including "Must Be the Money" and "It's On"), while hosting during the twentieth season of ''Saturday Night Live'' on February 18, 1995. Deion Sanders
Deion Luwynn Sanders Sr. (born August 9, 1967) is an American football coach and former player who is the head coach at the University of Colorado Boulder. Nicknamed "Prime Time", he played in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and Baltimore Ravens. Sanders was also a baseball outfielder for nine seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants. He won two Super Bowl titles and made one World Series appearance in 1992, making him the only athlete to play in both a Super Bowl and a World Series. Sanders played college football at Florida State, where he won the Jim Thorpe Award as a senior. The twentieth season of ''Saturday Night Live'', an American sketch comedy series, originally aired in the United States on NBC between September 24, 1994, and May 13, 1995. Much like the 1980–1981 season and the 1985–1986 season, NBC worried over ''SNLs decline in quality (and in the ratings) and initially decided that now would be the best time to pull the plug on the show once and for all. According to the prime time special ''Saturday Night Live in the '90s: Pop Culture Nation'', Lorne Michaels credits this season as the closest he's ever been to being fired. ''Saturday Night Live'' (often abbreviated to ''SNL'') is an American late-night live television sketch comedy and variety show created by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ebersol that airs on NBC and Peacock. Michaels currently serves as the program's showrunner. The show premiere was hosted by George Carlin on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title ''NBC's Saturday Night''. Secret Weapon (group)
Secret Weapon was a New York-based short-lived post-disco music group, formed by Jerome Prister. The group had a number of hits throughout the 1980s with their most successful single being "Must Be the Music" which hit #24 on the R&B chart and #66 on the dance chart in 1982. Post-breakup Band founder Jerome Prister went on to form the short-lived off-shoot group Output and later released several solo singles, along with a 1989 studio album, under the name Jerome "Secret Weapon" Prister. He died of a stroke in 2007. Singer Michele Blackmon, who also co-wrote "Must Be the Music," later began working as a unit team member managing inmates at a correctional facility, although she would continue performing/entertaining on the side until shortly before her death in late 2014. G-Funk
G-funk, short for gangsta funk, is a sub-genre of gangsta rap that emerged from the West Coast scene in the late 1980s. The genre is heavily influenced by 1970s psychedelic funk (P-funk) sound of artists such as Parliament-Funkadelic. Characteristics G-funk (which uses funk with an artificially altered tempo) incorporates multi-layered and melodic synthesizers, slow hypnotic grooves, a deep bass, heavy use of the snare drum, background female vocals, the extensive sampling of P-Funk tunes, and a high-pitched portamento saw wave synthesizer lead. It is typically set at a tempo of anywhere between 80 to 100 BPM. The lyrical content depended on the artist and could consist of sex, drug use (especially marijuana), love for a city/neighborhood, love for friends and relaxing words.
