Prime Minister's Office (Singapore)
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO; ms, Pejabat Perdana Menteri; zh, 总理公署; ta, பிரதமர் அலுவலகம்) is the executive branch of the Government of Singapore responsible for overseeing the other ministries and political matters that are of great importance to the nation, such as tackling corruption and holding elections. It is headed by the prime minister and other appointed ministers. The PMO is located in The Istana, which is also the official residence and office of the President of Singapore. In Singapore, a Member of Parliament (MP) appointed as 'Minister in the Prime Minister's Office' was previously known as 'Minister without Portfolio', an official cabinet appointment title under the Westminster parliamentary system. Desmond Tan (politician)
Desmond Tan Kok Ming ( zh, s=陈国明, p=Chén Guómíng; born 1970) is a Singaporean politician, union leader and former brigadier-general who has been serving as Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office and Deputy Secretary-General of the National Trade Union Congress since 2022. He previously served as Minister of State for Home Affairs and Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment concurrently between 2020 and 2022. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Pasir Ris Central division of Pasir Ris–Punggol GRC since 2020. Prior to entering politics, Tan had served 28 years in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and attained the rank Brigadier-General. The Istana
The Istana ( eng, The Palace) is the official residence and office of the president of Singapore. The palace is open to the public and is where the president receives and entertains state guests. The Istana is also the office of the prime minister of Singapore and is home to Sri Temasek, the official residence of the prime minister since Singapore's independence in 1965, though none of the prime ministers have ever lived there. The estate was once part of the extensive nutmeg plantation of Mount Sophia. In 1867, the British colonial government acquired the land and built a mansion to be the official home of the British governor. Political Corruption
Political corruption is the use of powers by government officials or their network contacts for illegitimate private gain. The Executive, also referred as the Executive branch or Executive power, is the term commonly used to describe that part of government which enforces the law, and has overall responsibility for the governance of a state. In political systems based on the separation of powers, such as the USA, government authority is distributed between several branches in order to prevent power being concentrated in the hands of a single person or group. The Smart Nation is an initiative by the Government of Singapore to harness infocomm technologies, networks and big data to create tech-enabled solutions. Overview The Smart Nation was an initiative launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 24 November 2014. In financial year 2017, the government had set aside $2.4 billion to support the initiative, which involves the government purchasing services from technology startups rather than offering grants to support them.
