''Primarily Jazz'' is an album (LP Vinyl) released by the Fullerton College Jazz Band for the Discovery Records Trend AM-PM label, it was the third release in as many years. Background In 1981 the Music Department at Fullerton College built a 16 track in house recording facility which was to serve as a teaching tool for both student music groups and students wanting to take recording technology classes at a vocational level. ''Primarily Jazz'' is the third of many albums to come out of this studio to feature the award-winning Fullerton College Jazz Band. The LP does contain tracks from three of the Fullerton College jazz groups: Jazz Band I, Jazz Band II, Connection Jazz Combo. Discovery Records
Discovery Records was a United States-based record company and label known for its recordings of jazz music. Discovery was founded in 1948 by jazz fan and promoter Albert Marx. The record label eventually would record jazz notables such as Dizzy Gillespie, Georgie Auld, Red Norvo, Art Pepper, Joe Pass and Charles Mingus for issue on his Discovery label headquartered in Hollywood, California. Discovery later recorded such performers as singers Lorez Alexandria and Ernie Andrews, and Grammy winning composer-band leader Gerald Wilson. Marx had first become artistic for later Musicraft Records in 1944 before starting his own label. In the 1970s Musicraft Records was revived through Discovery/Trend by Albert Marx in Los Angeles. Trend Records was a post-World War II United States jazz record label. Trend's back catalogue was purchased by Albert Marx, an authority on jazz music and entrepreneur who founded Discovery Records in 1948, and much of its material was reissued in the 1980s. ''Cadence: The Independent Journal of Creative Improvised Music'' is a quarterly review of jazz, blues and improvised music. The magazine covers a range of styles, from early jazz and blues to the avant-garde. Critic and historian Bob Rusch founded the magazine as a monthly in 1976 and served as publisher and coordinating editor through 2011. Musician David Haney became editor and publisher in 2012. History and profile ''Cadence'' began publication in 1976. The magazine's original parent company, Cadnor, Ltd. Jeff Rupert
Jeff Rupert (born September 6, 1964) is an American jazz saxophonist and professor at the University of Central Florida. Career Rupert received his master's degree in Jazz Studies from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in 1993, and his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Mason Gross School of the Arts in 1987. He joined the Sam Rivers Band in 1996, recorded four albums with the band, and performed at Lincoln Center for Ed Bradley's Jazz from Lincoln Center, Vision Festival, and Columbia University. He played with Ronnie Burrage in 2004. He has worked with Benny Carter, Maynard Ferguson, Diane Schuur, Mel Tormé, Ernestine Anderson, Judy Carmichael, Kenny Drew Jr., Ray Drummond, Joe Farnsworth, Benny Green, Kevin Mahogany, and Michael Philip Mossman. Dan Radlauer (born April 26, 1957 in Los Angeles) is an American film and television composer, who was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the eastern suburb of Los Angeles County, La Habra Heights. Radlauer is the recipient of four BMI composer awards and has received special recognition at independent film festivals. Early life, musical training, early successes Dan Redlaurer was raised in La Habra Heights, California (Southeastern range of the Puente Hills). Fullerton College (FC) is a Public college, public community college in Fullerton, California. The college is part of the California Community Colleges System and the North Orange County Community College District.
