"Pretty Wings" is a single by American singer-songwriter Maxwell, taken from his fourth studio album ''BLACKsummers'night''. It was written and produced by Maxwell and Hod David. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and was nominated at the 52nd Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Best R&B Song. Background Maxwell described "Pretty Wings" to MTV as "a bittersweet love song about meeting the right girl at the wrong time". The single is his first in seven years (previous single being the cover of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work" in 2002). Gerald Maxwell Rivera (born May 23, 1973), known mononymously as Maxwell, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He rose to prominence following the release of his debut studio album ''Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite'' (1996), which received widespread acclaim, and spawned the singles " Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)" and "Sumthin' Sumthin'". Philip Andelman is an American music video director and photographer. Andelman has directed music videos for many notable artists, see below. He has received nominations for his works from the MVPA, VMAs, and CMT awards including MVPA Director of the Year. His commercial work has won a Bronze Clio Award. Early life He grew up in Kenya, Paris, and New York City. Andelman attended Phillips Exeter Academy. Andelman was involved in filming since age 10.
