Preston Football Club (VFL)
The Preston Football Club, which trades and plays as the Northern Bullants, is a long-established Australian rules football club based in Preston that plays in the Victorian Football League (VFL). It plays its home games at the Preston City Oval. The club was established in 1882 as the Preston Football Club. The club participated in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) between 1903 and 1911, and then since 1926. After World War II, the club was known as the Bullants, and wore a plain red guernsey with a white monogram. The club later became the Northern Bullants. It was affiliated with the Carlton Blues in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 2003 to 2020; and, from 2012 until 2020, the club adopted the colours and nickname of its AFL affiliate to become the Northern Blues. The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). It includes teams from clubs based in the eastern states of Australia: Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and includes reserves teams for the east coast AFL clubs. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. John Hugh James MC & Bar (4 May 1890 – 23 April 1967) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the VFL between 1909 and 1916 and, upon returning from military service, from 1919 to 1923 for the Richmond Football Club. Hedley Tomkins
Hedley Whiteway Tomkins (11 June 1885 – 6 February 1965) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy and Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Tomkins played his early football with Metropolitan Junior Football Association side Leopold, from where he made his way to Fitzroy in 1904. After making just four appearances, the rover was rejected by Fitzroy, deemed to be too small. He would, however, prove a good player for his new club, Melbourne. His first stint with Melbourne was in the 1906 VFL season and he kicked three goals in his debut, the first of five games he played that year. Over the next three years he played for Preston in the Victorian Football Association. He then returned to Melbourne and was a regular fixture in the side for four seasons, missing only six games during this time. Percy Ogden
Percival Gordon Ogden (24 February 1886 – 13 July 1967) was an Australian rules footballer who played with and coached Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A rover, Ogden started his career with Collingwood in 1905. He played just four games with the club before moving to Association team Preston and did not return to the VFL until 1910 with Essendon. Ogden was a member of Essendon's back-to-back premiership wins in 1911 and 1912. After Essendon disbanded during the Great War, Ogden was captain-coach of Preston (then in junior ranks) in 1916–17 before returning when Essendon resumed in 1918. Brighton Football Club was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). The club was based in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton, and was nicknamed the Penguins. After suffering financial hardship throughout the 1950s, Brighton moved to Caulfield and became the Caulfield Bears in the early to mid-1960s.
