President Of The Chicago Board Of Education
The Chicago Board of Education is led by a president. The current President of the Chicago Board of Education is Miguel del Valle. Since the 1995 Chicago School Reform Amendatory Act went into effect, the president has been directly appointed by the mayor of Chicago, rather than being elected among the members of the board. Beginning with the 2026 Chicago Board of Education elections, after which the Board of Education is slated to become an entirely-elected board, the president will be elected at-large. Miguel Del Valle
Miguel del Valle (born July 24, 1951) is an American politician and the former City Clerk of Chicago. He was an Illinois State Senator for two decades, representing the 2nd District of Chicago from 1987–2006. Del Valle lost his bid for mayor in Chicago's February 22, 2011 municipal elections, coming in third with 53,953 votes. He took office as the President of the Chicago Board of Education on June 26, 2019, having been appointed to that position by Mayor Lori Lightfoot. Personal life and early career Del Valle was born in Puerto Rico and was brought to Chicago at the age of four by his parents. He grew up in the predominantly working class Latina/o West Town and Humboldt Park neighborhoods of Chicago. Adolf Kraus (1)
Adolf Kraus (February 26, 1850 – October 22, 1928) was an American lawyer, political figure, and Jewish leader. At the age of 15 he left the Bohemian town of Rokycany where he had grown up and emigrated to the United States. He worked on a farm and in a factory, later settling in Chicago where he completed his law studies before becoming a lawyer. He is one of the founding partner in the law firm of Kraus and Mayer which is one of the legacy firms that later formed Mayer Brown. In 1897 he was the second president of the civil service commission. He also became a grand officer of B'nai B'rith (president of Isaiah Temple in Chicago) and a prominent executive of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (nowadays the Union for Reform Judaism). John Dill Robertson
John Dill Robertson (March 8, 1871 – August 20, 1931) was a medical professional and politician. He served as Chicago city health commissioner, president of the Chicago Board of Education, and president of the Chicago West Parks Board. In 1927, Robertson ran a third-party campaign for Chicago mayor. As a politician, Thompson was affiliated with the Republican Party. He was an ally of Republican boss Frederick Lundin, and prior to his 1927 mayoral campaign against him, had also long been an ally of William Hale Thompson. During Robertson's tenure as Chicago city health commissioner, the city was impacted by the pandemic of the 1918 Spanish flu. When the flu began to impact the Chicago area, Thompson downplayed the threat of pandemic. Peter A. Reinberg (March 5, 1858 – February 21, 1921) was an American businessman and politician who was a very successful florist, and who served in the offices of president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, president of the Chicago Board of Education, and Chicago alderman. Early life Reinberg was born on March 5, 1858, in Chicago, Illinois, where he was also raised. He born to Henry and Katherine Reinberg, immigrants who hailed from, Préizerdaul, Luxembourg.
