Preppie! (video Game)
''Preppie!'' is an action video game for the Atari 8-bit family published by Adventure International in 1982. It was programmed by Russ Wetmore of Star Systems Software, whose name is prominently displayed on the box cover. Leaning on the preppy trend of the early 1980s, the game follows prep schooler Wadsworth Overcash as he navigates the hazards of a country club to retrieve golf balls. ''Preppie!'' borrows heavily from Konami's ''Frogger'', with lanes of traffic in the bottom half of the screen and a river crossing the top portion. Alligators are an element from both ''Frogger'' and preppy fashion; an open-mouthed gator is the icon of shirt brand Izod. Reviewers recognized the game as derivative, but called the music and visuals some of the best for Atari 8-bit computers. ''Preppie!'' was followed by a maze game, ''Preppie! Adventure International
Adventure International was an American video game publishing company that existed from 1979 until 1986. It was started by Scott and Alexis Adams. Their games were notable for being the first implementation of the adventure genre to run on a microcomputer system. The adventure game concept originally came from ''Colossal Cave Adventure'' which ran strictly on large mainframe systems at the time. The Z80 is an 8-bit microprocessor introduced by Zilog as the startup company's first product. The Z80 was conceived by Federico Faggin in late 1974 and developed by him and his 11 employees starting in early 1975. The first working samples were delivered in March 1976, and it was officially introduced on the market in July 1976. With the revenue from the Z80, the company built its own chip factories and grew to over a thousand employees over the following two years. Pacific Coast Highway (video Game)
''Pacific Coast Highway'' (stylized as ''Pacific Coast Hwy'') is a video game written by Ron Rosen for the Atari 8-bit family and published by Datasoft in 1982. It is a clone of ''Frogger,'' with the key gameplay differences being that ''Pacific Coast Highway'' allows two-player simultaneous play, and the road and water segments are split into separate, alternating, screens. Ron Rosen later wrote the 1983 platform game ''Mr. Robot and His Robot Factory'' Gameplay Each player starts at the bottom of the screen and the goal is to reach the top. Player one is a rabbit and player two, if present, is a tortoise. The difference between the two is entirely visual, and the tortoise and hare theme is not present elsewhere. HomePak
HomePak, published in 1984 by Batteries Included, is an integrated application written for the Atari 8-bit family and ported to the Commodore 64, Commodore 128, IBM PCjr, and Apple II. It includes a word processor (HomeText), database (HomeFind), and terminal communications program (HomeTerm). HomePak was designed by Russ Wetmore (who previously wrote the game '' Preppie!'') for Star Systems Software, Inc. The Commodore 128 version was ported by Sean M. Puckett and Scott S. Smith. The Atari 8-bit version of HomePak is implemented in the Action! programming language from Optimized Systems Software. Bill Kunkel (July 21, 1950 – September 4, 2011) was a graphic novelist as well as pioneering professional wrestling and video game journalist and critic from the 1970s until his death in the early 2010s. During his time working with the video game industry, Kunkel authored numerous strategy guides, co-designed several video games, served as an expert witness in three court cases, and taught courses in Game Design for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Antonín Leopold Dvořák ( ; ; 8 September 1841 – 1 May 1904) was a Czechs, Czech composer.
