Premier Soccer League (South Africa)
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is the professional soccer leagues-and-cups administrator in South Africa based in Johannesburg and founded in 1996 following an agreement between the National Soccer League and the remnants of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL). Affiliated to the South African Football Association (SAFA), the PSL organizes the country's top two professional divisions in the DStv Premiership and the Motsepe Foundation Championship and knockout cup competitions in the Nedbank Cup and the MTN 8. Teams that are relegated from the National First Division compete in the SAFA Second Division. They also organize a Youth League or Reserve League DStv Diski Challenge. SAFA Second Division
The ABC Motsepe League, previously known as the Vodacom League between 1998 and 2012, was founded in 1998 as the current Second Division and the overall third tier of South African football. The competition is regulated by SAFA, and until 2012 had been sponsored by mobile telecommunications company Vodacom. It features 144 teams in total, divided into 9 divisions, borders decided by the 9 geo-political provinces of South Africa: Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu Natal, Northern Cape, Western Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West. Each provincial division contains 16 teams. The winner of each provincial division qualifies for the annual promotional playoffs, where the winners of two streams are promoted to the National First Division. The 2003–04 National First Division was the 8th season of the National First Division, the second tier of South African soccer. It consisted of two streams, an Inland stream of 16 teams, and a Coastal stream of 14 teams. It consisted of two streams, an Inland stream of 16 teams, and a Coastal stream of 14 teams.
