Prefix Institute Of Contemporary Art
Prefix Institute of Contemporary Art is a public art gallery and an arts publishing house with a focus on contemporary photography, new media and digital arts. It is located in the 401 Richmond Street arts centre in Toronto, Canada. ''Prefix Photo'' magazine was founded by Canadian curator Scott McLeod in 1999 and has since expanded to include a programme of visual and audio art exhibitions, an international lecture series (the Urban Field Speaker Series), and a publicly accessible reference library. Prefix ICA is a registered Canadian charitable organization supported by its sponsors, donors, and funding bodies at all levels of government. Photography
Photography is the art, application, and practice of creating durable images by recording light, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. It is employed in many fields of science, manufacturing (e.g., photolithography), and business, as well as its more direct uses for art, film and video production, recreational purposes, hobby, and mass communication. Typically, a lens is used to focus the light reflected or emitted from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface inside a camera during a timed exposure. Lorna Simpson
Lorna Simpson (born August 13, 1960) is an American photographer and multimedia artist. She came to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s with artworks such as ''Guarded Conditions'' and ''Square Deal''. Simpson is most well-known for her work in conceptual photography. Her works have been included in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally. She is best known for her photo-text installation art, installations, photo-collages, and films. Chris Marker (; 29 July 1921 – 29 July 2012) was a French writer, photographer, documentary film director, multimedia artist and Essay#Film, film essayist. His best known films are ''La Jetée'' (1962), ''A Grin Without a Cat'' (1977) and ''Sans Soleil'' (1983). Annika Larsson
Annika Larsson (born 1972 Stockholm, Sweden) is a photographer and video artist. Larsson received a Master of Fine Arts from the Royal University College of Fine Arts, Stockholm. In 2002 she had a solo exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. In 2014 she had another solo exhibition at the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Roma in Rome. Robert Bean (artist)
Robert Bean is an artist, writer and teacher living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, he moved to Nova Scotia in 1976 to pursue a career in contemporary art and education. He obtained a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD University) in 1978, and an MA in Cultural Studies from the University of Leeds, England in 1999. He is currently an associate professor at NSCAD University. Bean has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the United States, Europe, South America and New Zealand. Lida Abdul
Lida Abdul is a video artist and performance artist from Afghanistan. She was born as Lida Abdullah in Kabul in 1979, fled the country as a child during the Soviet Invasion, and went on to live in India and Germany then the United States. Her most recent work has been featured at the 2005 Venice Biennale, Kunsthalle Vienna, Museum of Modern Art Arnhem Netherlands and Miami Cantral, CAC Centre d'art contemporain de Brétigny and Frac Lorraine Metz, France. Spring Hurlbut
Spring Hurlbut (born 11 April 1952) is a Canadian artist, known for work that deals with the relationship between sculpture and architecture, and with themes of mortality. She lives and works in Toronto. Education Hurlbut studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design, now known as OCAD University from 1971 to 1973 and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD University) from 1973 to 1975. Andrew Wright (artist)
Andrew Wright (born 1971) is a Canadian multimedia artist based in Ottawa, Ontario. Life Wright was born 4 September 1971 in Cambridge, England. He holds a specialist degree in Art and Art History from the University of Toronto (1994) and a Masters in Fine Arts at the University of Windsor (1997). Wright is currently associate professor in the Department of Visual Art at the University of Ottawa. Laurent Grasso (born 1972) is a French conceptual artist living and working in Paris. Biography Laurent Grasso is the recipient of the esteemed Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture and the prestigious Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2015, and 2008 respectively.
