Praça da República (literally Republic Square), formerly named Largo de São Roque (Saint Roch Square) is a small square in the city of Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal. The square has about 900 square meters, and is located between Junqueira shopping street and Praça do Almada square, the civic center. It is sometimes popularly known as ''Largo de Santiago'' (Saint James Square). History ''Capela de São Roque'' or Saint Roch Chapel was founded in 1582, by the seafarer Diogo Peres de S.Pedro and his wife Maria Fernandes de Faria. Meanwhile the cult to a Saint James icon (possibly from the 15th century), found at the beach, expanded the Saint James cult, justifying a change in invocation. São Félix Hill
São Félix Hill or Mount São Félix, ''Monte de São Félix'' in Portuguese, is the highest hill in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, as measured by the height above sea level of its summit, . São Félix is the north of the two hills east of the city, the other being Cividade Hill. São Félix is located in the civil parish of Laundos, and is a sequence of Serra de Rates mountain range. In the Middle Ages the hill was known as ''Lanudos'', hence the name of the civil parish. Despite its low height, São Félix is easily distinguished in the landscape because it is a significant rise in front of a coastal plain. Cividade Hill
Cividade Hill (Portuguese: ''Monte da Cividade'') or Cividade de Terroso Hill with an elevation of is one of the two hills next to the city of Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal. Cividade Hill's most notable feature is Cividade de Terroso in the hilltop. It is an ancient Castro culture town, hence the name of the hill that derives from Latin ''civitas'' (city). The walled city thrived since 900 or 800 BC, before being conquered and destroyed by the Roman Republic around 138 BC. Due to its urban protohistoric characteristics, the hilltop is considered to be an acropolis by archaeologists. The acropolis is, currently, owned by Póvoa de Varzim City Hall. Monastery Of Rates
The Monastery of Rates ( pt, Mosteiro de Rates) was a Benedictine monastery located in the parish of Rates in the municipality of Póvoa de Varzim, in Portugal. The part of the monastery that has survived to this day is the bell-tower and, most importantly, the Church dedicated to St Peter of Rates (''Igreja Paroquial de São Pedro de Rates''), mostly known as Romanesque Church of Rates ( pt, Igreja Românica de Rates), which is a national monument since 1910. Redonda Beach
Redonda Beach or ''Praia Redonda'' in Portuguese, meaning Round, is a beach on the southwestern coast of Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. It is adjacent to Passeio Alegre, in Póvoa de Varzim City Center. The Avenida dos Banhos runs alongside the beach, and the Diana Bar beach library, a nightclub and Café Guarda-sol are located on the beach. Port Of Póvoa De Varzim
The Port of Póvoa de Varzim is a seaport built in Enseada da Póvoa Bay in the city of Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal. During the Middle Ages, it was known as Port of Varzim (''Porto de Veracim'' in Old Portuguese). Once used for trade and shipbuilding, it is currently used for fishing and recreation, with a marina located within its breakwaters. Rua da Junqueira, mostly known simply as Junqueira, is a traditional shopping street in Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal.
