The Pratt Foundation is an Australian philanthropic organisation based in Melbourne and established in 1978 by Jeanne and Richard Pratt. According to its Values Statement, it has "the shared vision of supporting charitable enterprises and adding value to philanthropy". The Pratt Foundation claims to be one of the largest private sources of philanthropy in Australia. Philanthropy is a form of altruism that consists of "private initiatives, for the public good, focusing on quality of life". Richard Pratt (businessman)
Richard J. Pratt (born Ryszard Przecicki; 10 December 193428 April 2009) was an Australian businessman, chairman of the privately owned company Visy Industries, and a leading figure of Melbourne society. In the year before his death Pratt was Australia's fourth-richest person, with a personal fortune valued at billion. Early life Ryszard Przecicki was born in the Free City of Danzig (present-day Gdańsk, Poland) to Jewish parents Leon and Paula on 10 December 1934. His family immigrated to Australia in 1938 seeking safe refuge from the Nazis and settled in Shepparton, Victoria, changing their surname from Przecicki to Pratt. Pratt had a rough journey travelling to Australia without getting caught by the Nazis. The family faced food shortages en route. Samuel Lipski (born 1938) is an Australian journalist. He has been editor-in-chief of the ''Australian Jewish News'' and has worked as a reporter and columnist for ''The Age'', ''The Australian'', '' The Bulletin'' and ''The Sydney Morning Herald''. Gunns
Gunns Limited was a major forestry enterprise located in Tasmania, Australia. It had operations in forest management, woodchipping, sawmilling and veneer production. The company was placed into liquidation in March 2013. History Founded in 1875 by brothers John and Thomas Gunn, it was one of Australia's oldest companies. It had over 900 square kilometres of plantations, mainly eucalyptus trees. In 2001 Gunns paid $335 million for Tasmania's biggest woodchip company, North Forest Products, making it Australia's biggest exporter of woodchips. At one stage it became Tasmania's largest private land-owner.
