''Pratima'' is a 1945 Indian Hindustani-language movie directed by Paidi Jairaj. The film was produced by Bombay Talkies and was the directorial debut of P. Jairaj. The film stars Dilip Kumar, Swaran Lata, Mumtaz Ali, Shah Nawaz and Mukri. Swarn Lata was cast following her big success the preceding year, ''Rattan'' (1944). Devika Rani Choudhuri (30 March 1908 – 9 March 1994), usually known as Devika Rani, was an Indian actress who was active in Hindi films during the 1930s and 1940s. Widely acknowledged as the first lady of Indian cinema, Devika Rani had a successful film career that spanned 10 years. Born into a wealthy, anglicized Indian family, Devika Rani was sent to boarding school in England at age nine and grew up in that country. In 1928, she met Himanshu Rai, an Indian film-producer, and married him the following year. She assisted in costume design and art direction for Rai's experimental silent film ''A Throw of Dice'' (1929). Both of them then went to Germany and received training in film-making at UFA Studios in Berlin. Narendra Sharma
Pandit Narendra Sharma (28 February 1913 – 12 February 1989) was an Indian writer, poet and lyricist in Hindi language. He also wrote some songs for Indian Hindi cinema, like the title song for ''Satyam Shivam Sundaram'' (1979), for which he also received a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Lyricist. Mohammed Umar Mukri (5 January 1922 – 4 September 2000), popularly known as Mukri, was an Indian actor, who worked as a comedian in Hindi films. Born as Muhammad Umar Mukri in Uran, in Kokani Muslim Family. He started his film career with the film ''Pratima'' along with noted film actor Dilip Kumar in 1945. They were schoolmates together in the past. Subsequently, in career spanning 50 years, he acted in over 600 films. Swaran Lata (actress)
Swaran Lata ( ur, ), ( hi, स्वर्न लता), 20 December 1924 – 8 February 2008) was a Pakistani film actress. She started her career in the film industry in British India and later moved to Pakistan. She was known as ''The Tragedy Queen'' after she proved her mettle in her emotional, tragic roles, her presence on the film screen and her moving dialogue delivery. She worked both in Bollywood and in Pakistani cinema. Early life Swaran Lata was born into a Siyal Khatri Sikh family in Rawalpindi, British India, now in Pakistan on 20 December 1924. She did her Senior Cambridge diploma from Delhi and then joined the Academy of Music and Arts, Lucknow. In the early 1940s, her family moved to Bombay.
