Prasanna Alahakoon
Commodore Prasanna Alahakoon, USP, psc, SLN is a Sri Lanka naval officer and engineer. He is the current Deputy Superintendent of the SLN Dockyard and former Deputy Director Naval Projects and Plans as well as the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. Educated at the prestiges Royal College Colombo, entered the University of Moratuwa to study engineering. However he left to join the Sri Lanka Navy without graduating and gained a BTech in engineering from the Naval College of Engineering, Lonavla (INS Shivaji) and specialized in electrical engineering at INS Valsura, Jamnagar. He is a graduate of the Naval War College, with a BSc in War Studies and holds an MBA in Management of Technology from the University of Moratuwa. Lonavla
Lonavala (ISO: Loṇāvaḷā) is a hill station town and a Municipal Council in the Pune district, Maharashtra, India. It is about west of Pune and to the east of Mumbai. It is known for its production of the hard candy ''chikki'' and is also a major stop on the railway line connecting Mumbai and Pune. From the Pune suburbs, local trains are available from Pune Junction. Both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway as well as the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway pass through Lonavala. SLNS ''Parakrama'' is a Sri Lanka Navy shore establishment sited on Flagstaff Street in Colombo, in close proximity to the Colombo Lighthouse. It functions as the naval headquarters of the Navy. INS ''Valsura'' is a " stone frigate" (shore establishment) of the Indian Navy in Jamnagar, Gujarat. A premier technological training institution, it houses the Electrical school of the Indian Navy. History During World War II, a need was felt to supplement the torpedo handling and operations in India by establishing a torpedo school. Since a torpedo school required waters where torpedo running and depth charge firing could be possible, a suitable location had to be selected.
