Pranlal Devkaran Nanjee
Pranlal Devkaran Nanjee (11 June 1894 – 27 July 1956) was a noted Indian banker, businessman and philanthropist from Bombay, India. Birth & family life He was born on 11 June 1894 at Porbandar, the second son of Seth Devkaran Nanjee. He was married to Jayavati in 1911. She too was an active participant in the family's business. She was Fellow of the Indian Institute of Bankers and a member of Its Council ; Trustee of the Indian Merchants' Chamber she was the only daughter of the late Govindji Jhaverchand, a Munsiff and Magistrate of Jamnagar State. Porbandar
Porbandar is a city in the States and territories of India, Indian state of Gujarat, perhaps best known for being the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sudama. It is the administrative center of the Porbandar District and it was the former capital of the Porbandar State, Porbandar princely state. As the birthplace of one of the most famous leaders of the world, Porbandar has a significant tourism-led infrastructure and economy. The area around Mahatma Gandhi's home has been renovated to make a temple of peace. Porbandar's beach locally known as 'Chowpati' has a long, sandy expanse along the ocean. Swadeshi Movement
The Swadeshi movement was a self-sufficiency movement that was part of the Indian independence movement and contributed to the development of Indian nationalism. Before the BML Government's decision for the partition of Bengal was made public in December 1903, there was a lot of growing discontentment among the Indians. In response the Swadeshi movement was formally started from Town Hall Calcutta on 7 August 1905 to curb foreign goods by relying on domestic production. Mahatma Gandhi described it as the soul of swaraj (self-rule). The movement took its vast size and shape after rich Indians donated money and land dedicated to Khadi and Gramodyog societies which started cloth production in every household. It also included other village industries so as to make village self-sufficient and self-reliant.
