Prairie Trail
The Prairie Trail is a shared use path for walking and cycling, located adjacent in McHenry County, Illinois. The path is part of the Grand Illinois Trail and connects McHenry County to other trails in the Chicago metropolitan area. It is considered to be a good example of convert old methods of transportation to a new one. A rail trail is a shared-use path on railway right of way. Rail trails are typically constructed after a railway has been abandoned and the track has been removed, but may also share the right of way with active railways, light rail, or streetcars (rails with trails), or with disused track. As shared-use paths, rail trails are primarily for non-motorized traffic including pedestrians, bicycles, horseback riders, skaters, and cross-country skiers, although snowmobiles and ATVs may be allowed. The Chicago and North Western was a Class I railroad in the Midwestern United States. It was also known as the "North Western".
