Power Computing
Power Computing Corporation (often referred to as Power Computing) was the first company selected by Apple Inc to create Macintosh-compatible computers (" Mac clones"). Stephen “Steve” Kahng, a computer engineer best known for his design of the Leading Edge Model D, founded the company in November 1993. Power Computing started out with financial backing from Olivetti (US$5 million) and $4 million of Mr. Kahng's money. The first Mac-compatible (clone) PC shipped in May 1995. Like Dell Computer, Power Computing followed a direct, build-to-order sales model. In one year, Power Computing shipped 100,000 units with revenues of $250 million in the first year. Power Computing was the first company to sell $1,000,000 of products on the Internet. Power Computing released upgraded models until 1997 with revenues reaching $400 million a year. Magic Cap (short for Magic Communicating Applications Platform) is a discontinued object-oriented operating system for PDAs developed by General Magic. Tony Fadell was a contributor to the platform, Bill Atkinson shows the credits screen on Magic Link device, and Tony Fadell is mentioned in the conversation. and Darin Adler was an architect. UMAX Technologies (), originally known as UMAX Computer Corporation, is a manufacturer of computer products, including scanners, mice, and flash drives, based in Taiwan. The company also uses the Yamada and Vaova brand names. History UMAX was formerly a maker of Apple Macintosh clones, using the ''SuperMac'' brand name outside of Europe. Joel Kocher
Joel Kocher is an American businessman. He worked at Dell for seven years, where he eventually became the #2 executive behind Michael Dell, President of Worldwide Marketing, Sales and Service. He developed Dell's initial commercial and government strategy and execution. He left in late 1994, and became president of Artisoft, where he initiated its transformation to a telephony software provider. In 1996, he left Artisoft to become president of Power Computing, the first Mac clone company. The company successfully filed an IPO in May 1997. When Apple refused to renew Power's clone license, Kocher resigned when the Board refused to sue over the issue. In January 1998, Kocher joined MicronPC as its president.
