Powells Creek (Sydney)
Powells Creek, a southern tributary of the Parramatta River, is an urban stream west of Sydney Harbour, located in Sydney, Australia. It flows through Sydney Olympic Park and joins Parramatta River at Homebush Bay. Ecology Powells Creek begins as a concrete stormwater channel in the inner-western suburb of Strathfield, and flows north-west between the suburbs of Homebush and North Strathfield, past Bressington Park, where it joins Saleyards Creek. Beyond this point its concrete walls do not continue, and it becomes a mangrove-lined stream, flowing through Bicentennial Park and emptying into Homebush Bay. In 2008 the City of Canada Bay called for community responses to the Powells Creek Renewal Project, that intended to improve the appearance of the creek upstream of the confluence with Saleyards Creek. Sydney Olympic Park, New South Wales
Sydney Olympic Park is a suburb of Greater Western Sydney, located 13 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Parramatta Council. It is commonly known as Olympic Park but officially named Sydney Olympic Park. The area was part of the suburb of Lidcombe and known as "North Lidcombe", but between 1989 and 2009 was named " Homebush Bay" (part of which is now the separate suburb of Wentworth Point). City Of Canada Bay
The City of Canada Bay is a local government area in the Inner West of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The city was formed on 1 December 2000, following the merger of Concord and Drummoyne councils. The city covers an area of and as at the had a resident population of . Mangrove
A mangrove is a shrub or tree that grows in coastal saline water, saline or brackish water. The term is also used for tropical coastal vegetation consisting of such species. Mangroves are taxonomically diverse, as a result of convergent evolution in several plant families. North Strathfield, New South Wales
North Strathfield is a suburb in the inner-west of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. North Strathfield is located 15 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canada Bay. Strathfield and Strathfield South are separate suburbs, to the south. History The western part of this suburb was originally part of Homebush, while the eastern part was part of Concord. The area became part of the Municipality of Concord when the latter was established in 1883. The name "North Strathfield" came from the station, built in 1918. Homebush, New South Wales
Homebush is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 12 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Strathfield. The name of the suburb derives ultimately from an estate to the north, called "Home Bush" and owned by colonial surgeon D'Arcy Wentworth. The historic railway station named after the estate was briefly the early terminus of the Great Western Line in 1855. The historic Village of Homebush estate, south of the railway, was developed in 1878 and survives largely intact.
