Powell High School (Tennessee)
Powell High School is a public high school located in Powell, Tennessee, just north of Knoxville. It is part of the Knox County Schools. The first high school in Powell was established in 1874 and was called Perkins High School. In 1916, it was renamed for Columbus Powell, the prominent person for whom the Powell Railroad Depot had been named earlier. The principal is Chad Smith. Assistant principals are Jan Deaderick, Madeline Ferguson, and Amos Whitehead. Facilities The school has a total of 45 classrooms along with a football stadium, field and track, softball field, baseball field, football practice field, basketball gymnasium, and the Powell High Sports Complex. Due to the recent rezoning in the Knox County School system the school is now over-capacity and has 11 teachers without classrooms. Powell, formerly known as Powell Station, is a census-designated place in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The area is located in the Emory Road corridor ( State Route 131), just north of Knoxville, southeast of Clinton, and east of Oak Ridge. It had a population of 13,802 during the 2020 census. It is included in the Knoxville, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Despite its status as unincorporated, Powell is considered to be more of an "independent" small town than a suburb. One of the reasons behind this is that it was established in 1789 (two years before the establishment of Knoxville) by settlers passing through East Tennessee into the frontier. John Bruhin
John Glenn Bruhin (December 9, 1964 – March 31, 2022) was an American football guard who played four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League. Bruhin was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round of the 1988 NFL Draft. Walter Nolen (born c. 2003) is an American football defensive tackle for the Texas A&M Aggies. He was rated by ESPN and ''USA Today'' as the No. 1 recruit in the 2022 college football recruiting class. Lee Smith (American Football)
Joseph "Lee" Smith (born November 21, 1987) is a former American football tight end who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons with the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and Atlanta Falcons. He played college football at Marshall University, and was drafted by the Patriots in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. In late January 2022 he announced he would retire from the NFL. Daryle Ray Smith (January 18, 1964 – February 11, 2010) was an American football offensive tackle in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles. John Harold Cooper (born July 2, 1937) is a former American football player and coach. Cooper was an assistant coach at Iowa State, Oregon State, UCLA, Kansas, and Kentucky. Then, he embarked on a head coaching career, as he served as the head coach at the University of Tulsa (1977–1984), Arizona State University (1985–1987), and Ohio State University (1988–2000), compiling a career record of 192–84–6.
