Powderworks (song)
"Powderworks" is a song by Midnight Oil released in November 1978 on their eponymous debut album via their own label, Powderworks Records. Lyrics The title is an Australian term for a munitions factory. In his autobiography, Moginie says the song was named after "the road we drove down in Narrabeen" on their way to play at The Royal Antler Hotel, one of their early fan bases. Powderworks is also the name of a record label, which the group established in 1978. Reception Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, described the album, "Only a handful of tracks such as 'Powderworks', 'Used and Abused' and the single 'Run by Night' (December 1978) revealed any promise." "Powderworks" was not released as a single, and despite this is regarded rather highly by fans of the band and early on, became a very important part of the band's live performances. Unlike other songs from the album - "Used and Abused," "Surfing with a Spoon," and "Run by Night" - which were often performed live in ...

Songs Written By Jim Moginie
A song is a musical composition intended to be performed by the human voice. This is often done at distinct and fixed pitches (melodies) using patterns of sound and silence. Songs contain various forms, such as those including the repetition and variation of sections. Written words created specifically for music, or for which music is specifically created, are called lyrics. If a pre-existing poem is set to composed music in classical music it is an art song. Songs that are sung on repeated pitches without distinct contours and patterns that rise and fall are called chants. Songs composed in a simple style that are learned informally "by ear" are often referred to as folk songs. Songs that are composed for professional singers who sell their recordings or live shows to the mass market are called popular songs. These songs, which have broad appeal, are often composed by professional songwriters, composers, and lyricists. Art songs are composed by trained classical compo ...

Midnight Oil Songs
Midnight is the transition time from one day to the next – the moment when the date changes, on the local official clock time for any particular jurisdiction. By clock time, midnight is the opposite of noon, differing from it by 12 hours. Solar midnight is the time opposite to solar noon, when the Sun is closest to the nadir, and the night is equidistant from dusk and dawn. Due to the advent of time zones, which regularize time across a range of meridians, and daylight saving time, solar midnight rarely coincides with 12 midnight on the clock. Solar midnight depends on longitude and time of the year rather than on time zone. In ancient Roman timekeeping, midnight was halfway between sunset and sunrise (i.e., solar midnight), varying according to the seasons. In some Slavic languages, "midnight" has an additional geographic association with "north" (as "noon" does with "south"). Modern Polish, Belarusian, Ukrainian, and Serbian languages preserve this association wit ...

Flat Chat
''Flat Chat'' is a compilation album from the Australian rock band, Midnight Oil. It is a collection of their heavier rock songs, which gave them their reputation. ''Flat Chat'' peaked at No. 21 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The title is taken from a lyric in their 1982 song, " Power and the Passion". The Australian slang expression ''flat chat'' is used for "at the limit of one's powers or resources" or "working or moving as fast as possible". Of the 18 songs included in ''Flat Chat'', four had previously been included in Midnight Oil's compilation album '' 20,000 Watt R.S.L.'' (1997), and twelve would later be included in Midnight Oil's most comprehensive compilation album, ''Essential Oils An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile (easily evaporated at normal temperatures) chemical compounds from plants. Essential oils are also known as volatile oils, ethereal oils, aetheroleum, or simply as the o ...'' (2012). Track listing #Only the ...

20,000 Watt R
The comma is a punctuation mark that appears in several variants in different languages. It has the same shape as an apostrophe or single closing quotation mark () in many typefaces, but it differs from them in being placed on the baseline of the text. Some typefaces render it as a small line, slightly curved or straight, but inclined from the vertical. Other fonts give it the appearance of a miniature filled-in figure on the baseline. The comma is used in many contexts and languages, mainly to separate parts of a sentence such as clauses, and items in lists mainly when there are three or more items listed. The word ''comma'' comes from the Greek (), which originally meant a cut-off piece, specifically in grammar, a short clause. A comma-shaped mark is used as a diacritic in several writing systems and is considered distinct from the cedilla. In Byzantine and modern copies of Ancient Greek, the "rough" and "smooth breathings" () appear above the letter. In Latvian, Ro ...

Scream In Blue
''Scream in Blue'' is a live album by Midnight Oil that was released in May 1992 under the Columbia Records label. It contains songs carefully culled from 5 live concerts recorded over a 9-year period. The audiences sound quite large, but also included is material from a 1990 protest concert held on the street in front of Exxon headquarters in New York City. The album is mixed so as to sound like one continuous concert. The album starts with a scathing, nearly atonal electric guitar solo and never lets up (until the final, more subdued studio bonus track "Burnie"), careening through a hooky hard-rock minefield of clever, socially conscious lyrics sung with passion over a rip-roaring but very tight band. The tracks were evidently recorded through the sound systems of the various concerts, then mixed to a clear and well-balanced sound in the style of audio verité. Also, at the end of "Only the Strong", a short sound sample is inserted containing some chanting taken from "The D ...
