Powderfinger Albums
Powderfinger were an Australian rock band formed in Brisbane in 1989. From 1992 until their break-up in 2010, the line-up consisted of vocalist Bernard Fanning, guitarists Darren Middleton and Ian Haug, bass guitarist John Collins and drummer Jon Coghill. The group's third studio album ''Internationalist'' peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in September 1998. They followed with four more number-one studio albums in a row: ''Odyssey Number Five'' (September 2000), '' Vulture Street'' (July 2003), ''Dream Days at the Hotel Existence'' (June 2007) and '' Golden Rule'' (November 2009). Their Top Ten hit singles are " My Happiness" (2000), "(Baby I've Got You) On My Mind" (2003) and "Lost and Running" (2007). These Days (Powderfinger Song)
"These Days" is an alternative rock song from Powderfinger's fourth studio album, ''Odyssey Number Five'', which was released in 1999. The song was also released on Powderfinger's 2004 compilation album ''Fingerprints: The Best of Powderfinger, 1994-2000''. "These Days" was not released as a Single (music), single, however it topped the Triple J Hottest 100 chart in Triple J Hottest 100, 1999, 1999. It was also awarded ''Song of the Year'' at the 2000 Music Critic's Awards. Powderfinger have described "These Days" as one of their most simple, enduring, and popular works to date. In January 2018, as part of Triple M's "Ozzest 100", the 'most Australian' songs of all time, "These Days" was ranked number 77. The song was certified 3× Platinum in Australia in June 2020. Drag (band)
Drag are an Australian rock band led by Darren Middleton, most known as the lead guitarist from rock group Powderfinger. History Middleton started the band with drummer Mark McElligott, who is also the live engineer for Powderfinger, in 2000 as a side project. In 2002, the duo recorded the EP ''Gas Food Lodging'', a small collection of original songs written specifically for Drag. For these recordings, they brought in local Brisbane musicians, bass player Sean Hartman and pianist Matt Murphy as session musicians to play on the EP. The band was given the chance to record a full-length studio album when Powderfinger took a few years off between albums. In this hiatus, Middleton and McElligott re-enlisted Hartman and Murphy and began playing live around Australia. The band signed with the record label Dew Process, the same label that co-Powderfinger member Bernard Fanning signed with and released his solo album. "(Baby I've Got You) On My Mind" (also known simply as "On My Mind") is the first single from the fifth studio album by Powderfinger. It was released as a single on 16 June 2003 and reached 9 on the Australian Singles Chart, the band's third-highest-charting single to date. In January 2018, as part of Triple M's "Ozzest 100", the 'most Australian' songs of all time, "(Baby I've Got You) On My Mind" was ranked No. 97. The music video, directed by Scott Walton, was nominated for Best Video at the ARIA Music Awards of 2003. My Happiness (Powderfinger Song)
"My Happiness" is a song by Australian rock band Powderfinger. It was released via record label Universal Music Australia on 21 August 2000 as the first single from the band's fourth album, ''Odyssey Number Five''. Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning wrote the lyrics for "My Happiness" as a reflection on the time the band spent touring to promote their work, and the loneliness that came as a result. It was inspired by his love of gospel and soul music. The rest of the band are co-credited with Fanning for composing the track. Despite its melancholy mood, "My Happiness" is considered by many to be a love song, a suggestion Fanning regards as mystifying. Golden Rule (album)
''Golden Rule'' is the seventh and final studio album by Australian rock band Powderfinger, released on 13 November 2009. The album reunites the band with producer Nick DiDia, who produced several of the group's previous albums including, ''Internationalist'', ''Odyssey Number Five'' and '' Vulture Street''. Background The band recorded the album at Studio 301 in Byron Bay, New South Wales, beginning in June 2009, and completing the recording in August. The group's drummer Jon Coghill announced the name of the album on 11 September 2009. The crowd was recorded at the 2009 Splendour in the Grass for the song "Think It Over". Singles The first single to be released was "All of the Dreamers", which was released on 16 October 2009. ''Dream Days at the Hotel Existence'' is the sixth studio album by Australian rock band Powderfinger, released by Universal Music on 2 June 2007 in Australia, 19 November 2007 in the United Kingdom, and 11 November 2008 in the United States on the Dew Process label. It was released in Australia with a limited edition bonus DVD, titled ''Powderfinger's First XI'', featuring eleven music videos spanning the band's career, from the first single, "Tail" to "Bless My Soul", the band's latest single before the release of the album. A collector's edition, including a CD and DVD, was released on 18 April 2008. ''Vulture Street'' is the fifth studio album by Australian alternative rock band by Powderfinger, released on 29 July 2003 by Universal Music. It won the 2003 ARIA Music Award for Best Rock Album. Produced by Nick DiDia, ''Vulture Street'' was certified platinum, and spent 47 weeks on the ARIA Charts and peaked at #1. The ARIA Charts are the main Australian music sales charts, issued weekly by the Australian Recording Industry Association. ''Internationalist'' is the third studio album by Australian alternative rock band Powderfinger. The album was released on 7September 1998 and was often labelled Powderfinger's most adventurous work, with greater experimentation than in previous works. ''Internationalist'' followed in the success of its predecessor, ''Double Allergic'', and was certified five times platinum in Australia. ''Internationalist'' received four ARIA Music Awards, including "Album of the Year". Steven Bishop (born 3 March 1970) is an Australian drummer, formerly of Australian band Powderfinger Powderfinger were an Australian rock band formed in Brisbane in 1989. From 1992 until their break-up in 2010, the line-up consisted of vocalist Bernard Fanning, guitarists Darren Middleton and Ian Haug, bass guitarist John Collins and drumme ... though he left the band before their rise to prominence because of illness. Later, while working in the UK for two years he played in London-based bands. He has since gone on to record and perform with other Brisbane-based bands, including Moonjuice, The Haymakers, Dagwood and The Predators (for which he is also lead vocalist).Later in life Steven had a career in film and television after finishing at Griffith Film School in 2006. The Church (band)
The Church are an Australian Rock music, rock band formed in Sydney in 1980. Initially associated with New wave music, new wave, neo-psychedelia, and indie rock, their music later came to feature slower tempos and surreal soundscapes reminiscent of dream pop and post-rock. Glenn A. Baker has written that "From the release of the 'She Never Said' single in November 1980, this unique Sydney-originated entity has purveyed a distinctive, ethereal, psychedelic-tinged sound which has alternatively found favour and disfavour in Australia." The ''Los Angeles Times'' has described the band's music as "dense, shimmering, exquisite guitar pop".
