Poulomi Basu
Poulomi Basu (born October 1983) is an Indian artist, documentary photographer and activist, much of whose work addresses the normalisation of violence against marginalised women. Basu received the Royal Photographic Society's Hood Medal for the series ''Blood Speaks'', about the Nepalese practice of Chhaupadi. In 2017, Basu was selected for the Sundance New Frontiers Lab Fellowship. Her photobook ''Centralia'', about the conflict between the Indian state and the Maoist People's Liberation Guerrilla Army, was shortlisted for the 2021 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize. Her ''Eruptions: a decade of creation'' installation was shown at Side Gallery, Newcastle, UK in 2021/22. Art critic Charlotte Jansen wrote in Tate's publication, ''Fifty Pioneers Defining Photography for the Twenty-First Century'', that Basu’s work is "beautiful but also apocalyptic, her photographs and films pulsate with psychotropic light". Autograph ABP, previously known as the Association of Black Photographers, is a British-based international, non-profit-making, photographic arts agency. History Autograph was originally established in London in 1988. Founders included the photographers Sunil Gupta, Monika Baker, Merle Van den Bosch, Pratibha Parmar, Ingrid Pollard, Roshini Kempadoo, Armet Francis and Rotimi Fani-Kayode, as the Association of Black Photographers. Through a programme of advocacy, exhibitions and publication, Autograph went on to assist in the career development of a number of black and "culturally diverse" photographers, including Faisal Abdu'Allah, Gayle Chong Kwan, Roshini Kempadoo and Yinka Shonibare. Format International Photography Festival (stylised as FORMAT) is a biennial photography festival held in Derby, UK. It takes place in March in various venues in Derby including Quad (arts centre), Quad, University of Derby, Derby Museum and Art Gallery, Derwent Valley Mills, Market Place and in nearby cities. Format comprises "a year-round programme of international commissions, open calls, residencies, conferences and collaborations". St Helen's House
St Helen's House is a Grade I listed building. situated in King Street, Derby, England. Now leased as offices, it has been used in the past as a private residence and as an educational establishment. In 2013, renovation of the main house was completed. Originally it was planned to convert both St. Helen's House and the Pearson Building into a luxury hotel, with an adjoining crescent of new apartments. Due to the economic situation in 2011 this plan was changed, and it was decided to convert the building into an office instead. Renovation of the Pearson Building began in 2020 to convert its ground and first floors into commercial units and the upper floor into apartments. In 2019 several of the associated building were demolished to make way for the Kings Crescent Apartments. Quad (branded as QUAD and also known as Derby QUAD), is an arts centre in Derby, England, first opened on 26 September 2008. Dewi Lewis (born 10 March 1951) is a Welsh publisher and curator of photography. Career In 1975, Lewis was the founding director of the Bury Metropolitan Arts Association which operates the Met. Lewis also founded and was the first director of Cornerhouse, an arts centre in Manchester, England.
