Pottersville is an unincorporated community split between Bedminster Township in Somerset County, Tewksbury Township in Hunterdon County and Washington Township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The area is served as United States Postal Service ZIP Code 07979. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area 07979 was 589. In 1990, most of the village was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Pottersville Village Historic District. Demographics Education The Purnell School, a private all-girls boarding high school founded in 1963, was located in Pottersville. In February 2021, Purnell School announced that it would cease operations upon the completion of the 2020-2021 academic year. Later that year, Pingry School purchased the 82-acre campus to use as an extension of its existing campuses in Basking Ridge and Short Hills. ZIP Code Tabulation Area
ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) are statistical entities developed by the United States Census Bureau for tabulating summary statistics. These were introduced with the Census 2000 and continued with the 2010 Census and 5 year American Community Survey data sets. This new entity was developed to overcome the difficulties in precisely defining the land area covered by each ZIP code. Defining the extent of an area is necessary in order to tabulate census data for that area. Rockaway Valley Railroad
The Rockaway Valley Railroad, also known as the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Railroad and informally known as the Rock-A-Bye Baby, was an American short line. Built from a connection with the Central Railroad of New Jersey (CNJ) mainline in White House Station, New Jersey, the railroad traveled north to Watnong, New Jersey (a community in the northern section of Morris Township, New Jersey about 2 miles northwest of the center of Morristown, New Jersey), a total distance of approximately 25 miles (about 40 km). The railroad was constructed between 1888 and 1892, predominantly to ship peaches from orchards that were abundant along the southern part of the line, but it also carried passengers and other freight along the entire route. County Route 512 (CR 512) is a county highway in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The highway extends from High Bridge Road ( CR 513) in Califon to Springfield Avenue ( CR 527) / Route 24 in Summit. Route description CR 512 begins at an intersection with CR 513 in Califon, Hunterdon County, heading southeast on two-lane undivided Main Street past homes.
