Postcards From Home
''Postcards from Home'' is the second solo album by English singer-songwriter Nick Heyward. It was released in October 1986 through Arista Records and produced two UK chart singles, ‘’Over the Weekend’’ (#43) and ‘’Goodbye Yesterday’’ (#82). Recording and production The album was produced by Heyward's manager, Graham Sacher, and recorded at four studios: Oasis, Marcus, Mayfair and PRT. Nick Heyward
Nicholas Heyward (born 20 May 1961) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. He came to international attention in the early 1980s as the lead singer and songwriter for Haircut One Hundred. He and the band parted ways after their first album, after which he continued as a solo artist. Biography Early life Born in Beckenham, Heyward spent his early years in and around south London. He attended Kelsey Park School for Boys where he studied art and photography. He left school at 16 to work as a commercial artist. Haircut One Hundred Heyward and school friends Graham Jones and Les Nemes, the core of Haircut One Hundred, started bands together as far back as 1977. They were first known as Rugby, then the Boat Party, Captain Pennyworth and Moving England, before settling on Haircut One Hundred. Flamenco Guitar
A flamenco guitar is a guitar similar to a classical guitar but with thinner tops and less internal bracing. It usually has nylon strings, like the classical guitar, but it generally possesses a livelier, more gritty sound compared to the classical guitar. It is used in ''toque'', the guitar-playing part of the art of flamenco. History Traditionally, luthiers made guitars to sell at a wide range of prices, largely based on the materials used and the amount of decorations, to cater to the popularity of the instrument across all classes of people in Spain. Simon Halfon
Simon Halfon is a graphic designer most noted for his work with The Jam, The Style Council, and Paul Weller. Halfon has also worked with Oasis, Nick Heyward and George Michael, among others. Halfon's most visible work has focused on solid inspiration from the design of the 1960s. He has, however, displayed examples of a more current and sleek style as well. His work on the Style Council's house music efforts was noticed by George Michael, who had Halfon apply a similar approach to his '' Listen Without Prejudice'' album in 1990. Designs with Weller Halfon began working for Paul Weller in 1983. Designing record sleeves for The Style Council starting with 1983's ''Café Bleu'' The Style Council sleeves had a contemporary feel with a close eye on sixties design. Mastering, a form of audio post production, is the process of preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source containing the final mix to a data storage device (the master), the source from which all copies will be produced (via methods such as pressing, duplication or replication). Miriam Stockley
Miriam Arlene Stockley (born 15 April 1962) is a British singer. She was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and her work is influenced by the African music of her home country. Her distinctive ''vocal warm up#Vocalise, vocalise'' style gained international acclaim when Karl Jenkins launched the ''Adiemus (albums), Adiemus'' project with ''Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary'', with Stockley as the lead singer. Trombone
The trombone (german: Posaune, Italian, French: ''trombone'') is a musical instrument in the Brass instrument, brass family. As with all brass instruments, sound is produced when the player's vibrating lips cause the Standing wave, air column inside the instrument to vibrate. Nearly all trombones use a telescoping slide mechanism to alter the Pitch (music), pitch instead of the brass instrument valve, valves used by other brass instruments. The valve trombone is an exception, using three valves similar to those on a trumpet, and the superbone has valves and a slide. Les Nemes
Leslie Alexander Nemes (born 5 December 1960 in Croydon, England) is an English bassist. After being in several bands with guitarist/vocalist Nick Heyward, the pair formed Haircut One Hundred in 1980. The band enjoyed considerable success in the early 1980s including a top 5 album and four top 10 singles in the UK. Although Heyward left Haircut One Hundred in early 1983, Nemes remained with the band for its second album, which was released in 1984. The album was a commercial failure and the band broke up. Nemes then went on to tour and record as a session musician for Hugh Masekela, Chris Rea, Friends Again, China Crisis and Rick Astley. Nemes moved to Spain in 2003. Charlie Morgan (musician)
John Charles Morgan (born 9 August 1955) is an English musician, singer and songwriter. Early years Charlie Morgan was born in Hammersmith, London. He became professional in 1973 Music career By the mid-1980s, Charlie Morgan had become one of the top session drummers in the UK. In the 1980s he played on albums by artists including Elton John, Gary Moore, Justin Hayward, Kate Bush, Roy Harper, Pete Townshend, Judie Tzuke, Clannad, Tracey Ullman and Nik Kershaw. He was also the drummer in Gary Moore & Phil Lynott's video "Out in the Fields". In 1985 his drumming work with Nik Kershaw attracted the attention of Elton John, who booked him to play on his ''Ice on Fire'' album. Later that year John invited him to play with his band at Live Aid. This was the start of a thirteen-year period of recording and touring with John.
