Portrait Of Elisabetta Gonzaga
The ''Portrait of Elisabetta Gonzaga'' is an oil on wood painting attributed to the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael, executed ''c.'' 1504–1505, and housed in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence. History Contemporary sources speak of a portrait of Elisabetta Gonzaga executed by Raphael. The painting was likely part of the Ducal collection of Urbino, brought to Florence in 1635 as Vittoria della Rovere's dowry. It is mentioned with certainty for the first time in 1773, when it was transferred from Palazzo Pitti to the Grand Ducal wardrobe of the Uffizi. In a 1784 inventory it was attributed to Giovanni Bellini's school, while that of 1825 listed it as by Andrea Mantegna. It was attributed to Raphael for the first time in 1905. Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, better known as Raphael (; or ; March 28 or April 6, 1483April 6, 1520), was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance. Giovan Francesco Caroto
Giovanni Francesco Caroto (1480 – 1555 or 1558) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance active mainly in his native city of Verona. He initially apprenticed under Liberale da Verona (1445–1526/1529), a conservative painter infused with the style of Mantegna, but after a stay in Milan, Caroto began responding to the other influences from Francesco Bonsignori, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Giulio Romano; but he never lost a certain individuality and his rich Veronese colour. He trained prominent Mannerist painter Paolo Veronese, who was active mainly in Venice, as well as Antonio Badile. Examples of his art are in the Castello, Milan, the Chiesa de Carità, Mantua, in the Uffizi and Pitti, Florence, and in the museums of Dresden, Budapest, etc. His works are sometimes confused with those of his brother Giovanni, who was also a painter. The ''Portrait of Emilia Pia da Montefeltro'' is a picture from around 1504–1505, attributed by some to the Italian Renaissance artist Raphael and housed by the Baltimore Museum of Art, United States History The rear of the work has an inscription saying "Emilia Pia da Montefeltro" and a seal with a fragmentary line, usually interpreted as " otico tedescho di V nezia, i.e. the Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice. Guidobaldo (Guido Ubaldo) da Montefeltro (25 January 1472 – 10 April 1508), also known as Guidobaldo I, was an Italian condottiero and the Duke of Urbino from 1482 to 1508. Elisabetta Gonzaga
Elisabetta Gonzaga (1471–1526) was a noblewoman of the Italian Renaissance, renowned for her cultured and virtuous life. A member of the House of Gonzaga, she was a sister of Francesco II Gonzaga, Marquess of Mantua and by marriage the Duchess of Urbino. Because her husband, Duke Guidobaldo da Montefeltro, was impotent, Elisabetta never had children of her own, but did adopt her husband's nephew and heir, Francesco Maria I della Rovere.
