Portrait Of Clare (film)
''Portrait of Clare'' is a 1950 black and white British drama film directed by Lance Comfort and starring Margaret Johnston, Richard Todd, Robin Bailey and Ronald Howard, and based on the 1927 novel of the same name written by Francis Brett Young . Plot The film is begins in a large country mansion owned by the Hingstons and is set just after the Second world War. Lady Hingston starts to recall her youth to a young granddaughter Sylvia, The story is then told in flashback, returning first to around 1900. The family lawyer Mr Wilburn declares his love of Clare to her grandmother. However she enters and announces her engagement to Ralph Hingston. They marry but Ralph drowns as she watches him following a fall from a weir while trout fishing. Clare gives birth to a son soon after. They name him Steven. Lance Comfort
Lance Comfort (11 August 1908 – 25 August 1966) was an English film director. In a career spanning over 25 years, he became one of the most prolific film directors in Britain, though he never gained critical attention and remained on the fringes of the film industry, creating mostly B movies. Comfort carried on working almost right up to his death in Worthing, Sussex, in 1966. He had four children: Edward (born 1929), James (born 1931), Anna (born 1934) and Jack (born 1936). Griffiths Moss
Stanley Griffiths Moss (1879–1957) was a British actor, mainly in supporting roles. Life He was born Stanley George Moss on 1 July 1879 in Gloucester. In the 1920s he appears as leader of Catlin's Royal Pierrots at Lea's Pavilion in Folkestone. Around the same time he turned his hand to writing music, composing a foxtrot: "Under the Shadow of The Orme". He appears to have spent his life in the entertainment industry, mainly vaudeville, and only entered the film industry after the Second World War at age 67. He died in Lambeth London on 14 August 1957 aged 78. Charles Ernest Paton (31 July 1874 – 10 April 1970) was an English film actor. He joined the circus at 14, and had early stage and music hall experience. He appeared in more than 100 films between 1927 and 1952, including ''Freedom of the Seas''. Originally a house model for Sybil Connolly, she gained global recognition after being featured on the cover of ''Life'' magazine in 1953. She was one of the top models of the 1950s. Sir Bruce Lovat Seton, 11th Baronet (29 May 1909 – 28 September 1969) was a British actor and soldier. He is best remembered for his eponymous lead role in ''Fabian of the Yard''. Early life Bruce Lovat Seton was born in Simla, British India, the younger of two sons of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Bruce Gordon Seton of Abercorn (1868–1934), 9th Baronet and his wife, Elma Armstrong (died 1960). He was educated at Edinburgh Academy and then trained at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Campbell Copelin (1901–1988) was an English actor, who moved to Australia in the 1920s and worked extensively in film, theatre, radio and television. He had a notable association with J.C.
