Portrait Society of America is an art organization based in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. Established in 1998, the Portrait Society of America is a 501(C)3 registered charity was set to serve the purpose of an art education organization to foster the art of like portraiture, figurative art and Contemporary-Traditional Art through art programs and publications. The Portrait Society is dedicated to providing educational resources for everyone who has the curiosity for technical information, aesthetics in traditional art and history of portraiture and figurative art. The Portrait Society has more than 2,750 members around the globe. The Portrait Society was established by Edward Jonas, Gordon Wetmore, and Tom Donahue as a national non-profit organization in 1998. Julio Reyes (artist)
Julio Reyes (born January 15, 1982, in Hollywood, California) is an American contemporary artist. Reyes grew up in Los Angeles and was an athlete when he was young. But he had a greater passion with art and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing with a minor in sculpture at the Laguna College of Art and Design in 2005. In 2011, Reyes had his debut solo exhibition at Arcadia Gallery in New York. Marshall Bouldin III
Marshall Bouldin III (September 6, 1923 – November 12, 2012) was an American portrait artist from the U.S. state of Mississippi. Examples of his Oil paintings are currently held in more than 400 private and public art collections throughout the United States. ''The New York Times'' once praised Bouldin as "the South's foremost portrait painter." Bouldin became the first painter to be inducted into the National Portrait Artist Hall of Fame of the Portrait Society of America. Philip Martin Pearlstein (May 24, 1924 – December 17, 2022) was an American painter best known for Modernist Realist nudes. Cited by critics as the preeminent figure painter of the 1960s to 2000s, he led a revival in realist art. Biography Pearlstein was born on May 24, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to David and Libby Kalser Pearlstein. During the Great Depression, his parents sold chickens and eggs to support the family. As a child his parents supported his interest in art, sending him to Saturday morning classes at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Museum of Art. John Nelson Shanks (December 23, 1937 – August 28, 2015) was an American artist and painter. Harvey Dinnerstein (April 3, 1928 – June 21, 2022) was an American figurative artist and educator. A draftsman and painter in the realistic tradition, his work included genre paintings, contemporary narratives, complex figurative compositions, portraits, and intimate images of his family and friends. Early life and education Dinnerstein was born in Brooklyn, New York. His father, Louis, was a pharmacist and his mother, Sarah (Kobilansky) a homemaker. Richard Schmid (October 5, 1934—April 18, 2021) was an American realist artist. Early career Richard Schmid's maternal grandfather, Julian Oates, was an architectural sculptor. Richard's initial studies in landscape painting, figure drawing, and anatomy began at the age of twelve and continued into classical techniques under William H. Glenna Maxey Goodacre (August 28, 1939 – April 13, 2020) was an American sculptor, best known for having designed the obverse of the Sacagawea dollar that entered circulation in the US in 2000, and the Vietnam Women's Memorial in Washington, D.C. Early life and career Goodacre's father, Homer Glen Maxey was a Lubbock builder, developer and civic leader. A graduate of Texas Tech University in 1931, he was the first president of the Red Raider Club. He served on the Lubbock City Council from 1956 to 1960. A city park bears the name of Homer Maxey's father, James Barney Maxey (1881–1953), who was Glenna's paternal grandfather.
