Porto Velho Air Force Base – ALA6 is a base of the Brazilian Air Force, located in Porto Velho, Brazil. It shares some facilities with Gov. Jorge Teixeira de Oliveira International Airport. History Porto Velho Air Force Base was commissioned on 31 October 1984. Units The following units are based at Porto Velho Air Force Base: * 2nd Squadron of the 3rd Aviation Group (2º/3ºGAv) ''Grifo'', using the A-29A & B Super Tucano. * 2nd Squadron of the 8th Aviation Group (2°/8°GAv) ''Poti'', using the Mil AH-2 Sabre. In August 2022 it was announced that all 12 aircraft will be decommissioned and stored. * 5th Squadron of the 1st Communications and Control Group (5º/1ºGCC) ''Zagal'', using radars and equipment for air defense. Porto Velho (, ''Old Port'') is the capital of the Brazilian state of Rondônia, in the upper Amazon River basin, and a Catholic Metropolitan Archbishopric. The population is 548,952 people (as of the IBGE 2021 estimation). Located on the border of Rondônia and the state of Amazonas, the town is an important trading center for cassiterite, the mining of which represents the most important economic activity in the region, as well as a transportation and communication center. Rondônia () is one of the 26 states of Brazil, located in the northern subdivision of the country (central-western part). To the west is a short border with the state of Acre, to the north is the state of Amazonas, in the east is Mato Grosso, and in the south and southwest is Bolivia. Governador Jorge Teixeira De Oliveira International Airport
Porto Velho-Governador Jorge Teixeira de Oliveira International Airport also called Belmonte Airport referring to the neighborhood where it is located, is the airport serving Porto Velho, Brazil. Since 3 July 2002, the airport has been named after Jorge Teixeira de Oliveira (1922-1987), the first Governor of the State of Rondônia. The airport is operated by Vinci SA. Some of its facilities are shared with the Porto Velho Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force. History The airport was opened on 16 April 1969 as a replacement for Caiari Airport, which was then closed. The airport has been operated by Infraero since 1979 and in 2002 it was granted international status. The Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano (English: ''Super Toucan''), also named ALX or A-29, is a Brazilian turboprop light attack aircraft designed and built by Embraer as a development of the Embraer EMB 312 Tucano. The A-29 Super Tucano carries a wide variety of weapons, including precision-guided munitions, and was designed to be a low-cost system operated in low-threat environments. In addition to its manufacture in Brazil, Embraer has set up a production line in the United States in conjunction with Sierra Nevada Corporation for the manufacture of A-29s to export customers. DAFIF () or the ''Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File'' is a comprehensive database of up-to-date aeronautical data, including information on airports, airways, airspaces, navigation data, and other facts relevant to flying in the entire world, managed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) of the United States. Withdrawal of public access DAFIF was publicly available until October 2006 through the Internet; however, it was closed to public access because "increased numbers of foreign source providers are claiming intellectual property rights or are forewarning NGA that they intend to copyright their source".
