Porterville is a city in the San Joaquin Valley, in Tulare County, California, Tulare County, California, United States. It is part of the Visalia Metropolitan Area, Visalia-Porterville metropolitan statistical area. Since its incorporation in 1902, the city's population has grown as it annexed nearby unincorporated areas. The city's July 2019 population (not including East Porterville, California, East Porterville) was estimated at 59,599. Porterville serves as a gateway to Sequoia National Forest, Giant Sequoia National Monument and Kings Canyon National Park. History During California's Spanish period, the San Joaquin Valley was considered a remote region of little value. Porterville (also Maryville) is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Kemper County, Mississippi. It lies a slight distance away from U.S. Route 45 southeast of the city of De Kalb, the county seat of Kemper County. Its elevation is 200 feet (61 m). It has a post office with the ZIP code 39352. It is adjacent to Lake Porterville. Demographics History Porterville was named for the first postmaster, Willie N. Porter. The community is located on the Kansas City Southern Railway and the post office first opened on May 24, 1890. Porterville was once home to several stores and in 1906 had a population of 200. The Porterville General Store is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Porterville is a ghost town in Loving County, Texas, United States. History Porterville was established in 1905 by Dr. Phil Porter, a physician who relocated from Michigan due to what he believed were health benefits of living in the desert. At one point in time, the town was a bustling community, with a hotel, a blacksmith's shop, a post office, a doctor, and two general stores. Its population growth was initially fueled by inexpensive farmland and irrigation. However, the nearby Pecos River was not big enough to accommodate the needs of the farmers, and the population of the town declined precipitously. When oil was discovered in the early 1930s, the nearby town of Mentone was established, and the population of Porterville declined gradually until the town became abandoned. Today, little remains of the former Porterville. The only building that still survives in any usable fashion is the town's church, which was built in 1909 and moved to Mentone in 1931. Porterville is an unincorporated community in Morgan County, Utah, United States. Geography Porterville is located at the south end of Morgan County, four miles southwest of Morgan. It is situated at a junction between Hardscrabble Canyon and East Canyon. History Porterville was first settled by Centerville residents Sanford and Nancy Warriner Porter in 1859. The area had abundant timber, so they built a sawmill, the first in Morgan County. Mormon Flat Breastworks The Mormon Flat Breastworks, fortification structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places, are located along the north side of Jeremy Ranch Road on both sides of the mouth of Little Emigration Canyon. Porterville is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The town is located at the foot of the Olifants River Mountains, 27 km south-east of Piketberg and 155 km north-east of Cape Town. It is situated 140 km north of Cape Town on R44 road at the base of the Olifants River mountains. The Dasklip Pass to the surrounding Groot Winterhoek mountains is located 14 km outside of the town. The Soom Shale, a notable deposit of Late Ordovician era fossils, is located near the town. Agriculture in the area is dominated by wheat production. The closest towns are Piketberg to the west, Saron to the south, and Eendekuil and Citrusdal to the north.
