Porter Charleston
Porter Riley Charleston (January 8, 1904 – June 11, 1986) was an American Negro league pitcher between 1927 and 1935. A native of Mexia, Texas, Charleston made his Negro leagues debut in 1927 with the Hilldale Club. He played five seasons with Hilldale, and went on to play for the Baltimore Black Sox and Philadelphia Stars. Charleston died in Chester, Pennsylvania Chester is a city in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum. Mexia ( ) is a city in Limestone County, Texas, Limestone County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,893 at the 2020 census.
