The Port of Taichung (), also Taichung Port, is a port located in Wuqi District, Taichung, Taiwan. It is the second-largest port in Taiwan after Kaohsiung Port and operated by Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Taiwan's state-owned harbor management company. Overview The port covers an area of , and includes industrial, fishing, and business ports. It is -long and 2.5 to 4.5 km wide. It can accommodate vessels of up to 60,000 tons, and in June 2000 earned an ISO-9001 rating. The port still has hundreds of hectares left of undeveloped space. The harbor is located 110 nautical miles from Keelung Port and 120 nautical miles from Kaohsiung Port. In 2010, the harbor surpassed Keelung Port to become the second-largest port in Taiwan. Wuqi District
Wuqi District () is a coastal suburban district in southern Taichung, Taiwan. The Port of Taichung is located in Wuqi District. History After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, Wuqi was organized as an urban township of Taichung County. On 25 December 2010, Taichung County was merged with Taichung City and Wuqi was upgraded to a district of the city. Ten Major Construction Projects
The Ten Major Construction Projects () were the national infrastructure projects during the 1970s in Taiwan. The government of Republic of China believed that the country lacked key utilities such as highways, seaports, airports and power plants. Moreover, Taiwan was experiencing significant effects from the 1973 oil crisis. Therefore, to upgrade the industry and the development of the country, the government planned to take on ten massive building projects. They were proposed by the Premier Chiang Ching-kuo, beginning in 1974, with a planned completion by 1979. There were six transportation projects, three industrial projects, and one power-plant construction project, which ultimately cost over NT$300 billion in total. The Mitsui Outlet Park Taichung Port () is an outlet store in Wuqi District, Taichung, Taiwan. History The idea to construct the outlet was brought up in September 2016. On 21 August 2017, the groundbreaking ceremony was held which was attended by Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung and Chairperson of Taiwan International Ports Corporation. Chiang Ching-kuo
Chiang Ching-kuo (27 April 1910 – 13 January 1988) was a politician of the Republic of China after its retreat to Taiwan. The eldest and only biological son of former president Chiang Kai-shek, he held numerous posts in the government of the Republic of China and ended martial law in 1987. He served as Premier of the Republic of China between 1972 and 1978, and was President of the Republic of China from 1978 until his death in 1988. Born in Zhejiang, Chiang-kuo was sent as a teenager to study in the Soviet Union during the First United Front in 1925, when his father's Nationalist Party and the Chinese Communist Party were in alliance. He attended university there and spoke Russian fluently, but when the Chinese Nationalists violently broke with the Communists, Stalin sent him to work in a steel factory in the Ural Mountains.
