Port Lincoln Football League
The Port Lincoln Football League is an Australian rules football competition based at the southern extremity of the Eyre Peninsula region of South Australia, Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League. Port Lincoln Football League games are officiated by the Port Lincoln Football League Umpires Association. Brief history The league was originally formed in 1910 as the Port Lincoln Football Association. The league was reformed in 1946 (having been in recess during World War II) under its current title of Port Lincoln Football League. At that time the participating clubs were Lincoln South, Tasman and Waybacks. Marble Range rejoined the league in 1953 from the Great Flinders FL, having been a member of the PLFA before World War II. South Australian National Football League
The South Australian National Football League, or SANFL ( or ''S-A-N-F-L''), is an Australian rules football league based in the Australian state of South Australia. It is also the state's governing body for the sport. Originally formed as the South Australian Football Association on 30 April 1877, the SANFL is the oldest surviving football league of any code in Australia and is the 7th oldest club football league in the world. Consisting of a single division competition, since the admission of the Adelaide Crows AFL Reserves in 2014 the season, has been a 10-team, 18-round home-and-away (regular) season from April to September. Peter Burgoyne
Peter Gabriel Burgoyne (born 29 January 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer with Port Adelaide in the Australian Football League (AFL). He played primarily in midfield and on the half back flank. Early life Burgoyne is of Indigenous Australian descent with tribal ancestry that can be traced to the Kokatha ( Nunga) in South Australia. Byron Pickett
Byron Pickett (born 11 August 1977) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played with three clubs in the AFL. He was known as a big game player as well as for his strength, hard bumps and tough approach to the game. Pickett is one of 12 players with two premiership medallions, a Norm Smith Medal and over 200 AFL games. In 2005 Pickett was acknowledged as one of the finest Aboriginal players in the history of the game, with his selection to the Indigenous Team of the Century. He announced his retirement from AFL at the end of the 2007 season. Lindsay Thomas (born 29 February 1988) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne and Port Adelaide in the Australian Football League (AFL). AFL career Drafted by the Kangaroos in the fourth round of the 2006 AFL Draft from the Port Adelaide Magpies, Thomas made impressive performance by kicking four goals in his first pre-season game against Collingwood in the NAB Cup at Carrara Oval. Thomas made his AFL debut in Round 1 of the 2007 season, scoring no goals but five behinds in a loss against Collingwood. In 2010 Thomas led North Melbourne's goalkicking with 29 goals which included 7 against Carlton in Round 12. The 2011 season was not a successful season for Thomas. Daniel Wells (born 3 February 1985) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne and Collingwood in the Australian Football League (AFL). AFL career Wells was selected by with the number two overall pick in the 2002 AFL draft and made his debut in 2003 playing 18 games and averaging 12 disposals per game. He rose to prominence in 2004 when, against Fremantle, he kicked the AFL Goal of the Year, jumping and taking the ball from ruck contest in the goal square and kicking the goal before he landed. Wells was selected in the Australian team for the 2005 International Rules Series but was unable to play due to injury. He enjoyed a fairly good year in 2006 in which he averaged 18 disposals and finished 2nd in the Syd Barker Medal. Harry Miller (footballer)
Harry Miller (born 11 June 1985) in Port Lincoln, South Australia was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League. Selected at pick 25 in the 2003 AFL draft, Miller was a small forward who played 14 games with Hawthorn Football Club, Hawthorn in the 2005 season, and another four in 2006. He kicked four goals in the narrow loss to Richmond near the end of the 2005 season and earlier that year had his statistically most productive match with 19 disposals in Hawthorn's comprehensive win over Brisbane. Edward Robert Betts III (born 26 November 1986) is a former Australian rules football player who played as a forward for Carlton and Adelaide in the Australian Football League. Betts was originally drafted by Carlton with pick No. 3 in the 2004 Pre-Season Draft, where he played for nine years before Adelaide signed him as a free agent at the end of 2013. He moved back to Carlton at the conclusion of the 2019 season, where he would finish his career at the end of the 2021 season having played a total of 350 games and kicked 640 goals. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football.
