The Port Kembla Blacks (or Port Kembla Rugby League Football Club) were a Rugby League team from Port Kembla, New South Wales, Australia that competed in the Illawarra Rugby League competition from 1914 to 2008 before moving to the Group 7 Rugby League competition from 2013 to 2017... History The Port Kembla District Rugby League Football Club first entered the local rugby league competition in 1914, fielding a Third Grade team. The club wore an all-dark green jersey, playing on a home ground which was a section of the old golf links (the original Port Kembla Golf Club), located near Hill 60. The club played only one year before the First World War interrupted the competition. In 1919, at the completion of World War I, the PKDRLFC resumed playing in the local 3rd Grade competition, this time playing in all-black jerseys (and becoming known as "The Blacks"). Brian Hetherington
Brian Hetherington (born 14 January 1954) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. He primarily played in the centres. Hetherington played for the Newtown Jets and the Illawarra Steelers. While attending Figtree High School, Hetherington played for the Australian Schoolboys team in 1972. Graeme Frank Langlands, MBE, (2 September 1941 – 20 January 2018), also known by the nickname of "Changa", was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. and coached in the 1970s. Ron Costello (born 1942) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He played for the Western Suburbs Magpies, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, New South Wales and for the Australian national side. From Shellharbour on the South Coast of New South Wales, Costello went to Shellharbour Public School (1948–1954), and then went to the Western Suburbs Magpies in Sydney and played lower grades in 1964-1965. He was signed by Collegians Wollongong RLFC (Illawarra Division) in 1967 by then coach Kevin Smyth (a former Kangaroo 1963). Collegians won the Club Championship and First Grade Premiership that season with Costello representing New South Wales. Chris Walsh (born 5 June 1962) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s and 1990s. A New South Wales State of Origin forward, he played club football for the St. George Dragons and Illawarra Steelers. Playing career As a 19-year-old in 1981, Walsh moved from Port Kembla to Kogarah and played five seasons at the St. George Dragons between 1982 and 1986. Sir Terence Norman Beckett (13 December 1923 – 2 May 2013) was a British businessman, who was chairman of Ford and later became director-general of the Confederation of British Industry. Early life Beckett was born on 13 December 1923 in Walsall, Staffordshire, England. He was educated at the private Wolverhampton Grammar School. He then went on to study mechanical engineering at Wolverhampton and Staffordshire Technical college (now Wolverhampton University). On 14 July 1945, Beckett was commissioned in the British Army as a second lieutenant of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He was given the service number 352178.
