Port Arthur Independent School District
Port Arthur Independent School District is a public school district based in Port Arthur, Texas, United States. The district serves most of Port Arthur and a portion of Groves. In 2012, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. Administration The district is headed by the PAISD School Board, which is ultimately responsible for the well-being of the district. It hires a superintendent of schools who is chiefly responsible for overseeing the day-to-day affairs of the district. This superintendent accomplishes this with the aid of other individuals and groups that the administration comprises. The current superintendent is Dr. Mark Porterie. Bishop Byrne High School (Texas)
Bishop Byrne High School was a Catholic high school in Port Arthur, Texas. It was located near Texas State Highway 73. It was in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Beaumont. History Christopher E. Byrne, a bishop, consolidated St. James High School and St. Mary High School into a single school, which initially had the two campuses but later got a single one. In 1949 the first class of students graduated. In 1965 the school had 500 students. In 1983 170 students were enrolled. In 1983 all of the teachers were lay teachers except for a single nun; the school administration believed having more clergy on staff would show a stronger religious image and encourage more people to enroll. The school closed in 1983. Memorial High School is a public, co-educational secondary school located in Port Arthur, Texas, United States. It was established in August 2002 after a merger of three previous high schools: Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Stephen F. Austin. Since then, Port Arthur Memorial High School has been the only high school in the Port Arthur Independent School District. It serves most of Port Arthur and a portion of Groves. Initially, the school used the former Lincoln and Jefferson campuses; its new facility opened for the 2009–10 school year on the northern side of Port Arthur.
