Porky Chops
''Porky Chops'' is a 1949 Warner Bros. ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon directed by Arthur Davis. The short was released on February 12, 1949, and stars Porky Pig. The short's name is a pun on " pork chops". Plot The Hipster Squirrel is on vacation in the north woods, and decides to get some sleep. His sleep is disturbed by what he thinks at first is the noise of a woodpecker. Upon further investigation, the squirrel discovers that Porky Pig, whom he calls a "lumberjackson", is chopping his own tree. The squirrel zips open a door at the base of the tree and removes the blade off of Porky's axe then tosses it on Porky's head. While Porky goes away to get more axes, the squirrel covers the base of the tree with a sheet of metal, riveting it in and painting it to look like the tree. Porky comes back a lot of axes, and proceeds to chop, but the blades keep breaking. Arthur Davis (animator)
Arthur Davis ( Davidavitch) (June 14, 1905 – May 9, 2000) was an American animator and director known for his time at Warner Brothers' Termite Terrace cartoon studio. Early life Davis was born on June 14, 1905, in Yonkers, New York to Hungarian parents. He is the younger brother of animator Mannie Davis. Career Davis got his start as a teenager at Raoul Barre's Studio in 1918 and later moved to Jefferson Film Corporation when the Mutt and Jeff cartoons began being made there in January 1921 it was claimed that he won a cartoon competition. In 1923 he joined Out Of The Inkwell Films in New York, working as an assistant in 1922 since Dick Huemer proposed him to be an assistant. He is reputed to have been the first in-betweener in the animation industry. Another of his distinctions was that he tapped out the famous " bouncing ball" of the "Follow the Bouncing Ball" cartoons of the 1920s. Produced by Lee Mendelson and directed by Bill Melendez, the program made its debut on CBS on December 9, 1965. In the special, Charlie Brown finds himself depressed despite the onset of the cheerful holiday season. Lucy suggests he direct a neighborhood Christmas play, but his best efforts are ignored and mocked by his peers when he chooses a real, but puny, Christmas tree as a centerpiece. After the comic strip's debut in 1950, ''Peanuts'' had become a phenomenon worldwide by the mid-1960s.
