Popular Unity ( el, Λαϊκή Ενότητα (ΛΑΕ), ''Laïkí Enótita'', LAE) is a left-wing politics, left-wing list of political parties in Greece, political party in Greece. Popular Unity was founded on 21 August 2015 by twenty five parliamentarians formerly affiliated to the Syriza, Coalition of the Radical Left (Syriza), as a reaction to Prime Minister of Greece, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' handling of the Greek government-debt crisis, Greek bailout agreement of 2015. It is led by the former Ministry of Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy, Minister of Energy Panagiotis Lafazanis. Due to receiving 2.86% (vs. the required 3%) of the popular vote in the September 2015 election it has no seats in the Parliament. The People's Unity Party – Socialist Party ( is, Sameiningarflokkur alþýðu – Sósíalistaflokkurinn), generally referred to as the Socialist Party ( is, Sósíalistaflokkurinn), was an Icelandic political party that functioned from 1938 to 1968, when the People's Alliance party was created. History It was formed through the merger of the Communist Party of Iceland (KFI) and another splinter group from the Social Democratic Party on the grounds that a united front was needed against fascism, according to the guidelines put forth by the Comintern. The formation of the Socialist Party was a result of the Popular Front line embraced by ComIntern, and promoted in Iceland by Einar Olgeirsson of the KFI. Philosopher Jon Olafsson has argued that as it resulted in a split within the larger Social Democratic Party, Comintern did not approve of the merger in its eventual form. The Popular Unity Party is a political party in Iraq led by Youssif Hamdan. It was founded in 1995 and was initially known as the Communist Party of Iraq (CPI). Popular Unity Party (Portugal)
Popular Unity Party ( pt, Partido de Unidade Popular) was a political party in Portugal. PUP was founded in December 1974 by the Mendes fraction of the Communist Party of Portugal (Marxist-Leninist). The PUP published a newspaper called ''Averdade'' (''The Truth''). It rejected parliamentary democracy and sought to create a people's republic of poor workers and peasants. After the 1975 elections PUP was renamed Portuguese Marxist-Leninist Committee (''Comité Marxista-Leninista Português''). In 1976 CMLP merged with the Portuguese Marxist-Leninist Communist Organization and the Organization for the Reconstruction of the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) to form the Portuguese Communist Party (Reconstructed). The Popular Unity Party ( ar, حزب الوحدة الشعبية; french: link=no, Parti de l'Unité Populaire, PUP) is an Arab nationalism, Arab nationalist party in Tunisia. History and profile The party was founded in 1981 as a breakaway from the left-wing Popular Unity Movement (MUP) by members who disagreed with MUP leader Ahmed Ben Salah's policy to boycott elections. In 1983, the government of Mohammed Mzali legalised two moderate oppositional parties, including the PUP. The party won two seats in the Tunisian general election, 1994, general election held on 20 March 1994. Following the elections of 1999, the PUP had 7 members in the Tunisian parliament.
