''Popoli'' is an Italian Jesuit magazine. Founded in 1915, the magazine is published by the San Fedele Cultural Foundation of Milan. History Le Missioni della Compagnia di Gesù (The Missions of the Society of Jesus) In the winter of 1914, Giuseppe Petazzi, a Jesuit priest, began preparations for the publication of a fortnightly journal, named ''Le Missioni della Compagnia di Gesù'', publishing the first issue in January 1915. The magazine aimed at promoting the work of the missions, with a specific reference to members of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) in Italy. The publication featured images and began to publish every month in 1943. In 1954, the magazine changed its format from "note-book" to the larger sized format of the present publication. In 1970, the magazine was renamed ''Popoli e Missioni'' (Peoples and Missions) with the publisher's new association with the Italian headquarters of Pontifical Mission Societies. Clarence Thomas (born June 23, 1948) is an American jurist who serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to succeed Thurgood Marshall and has served since 1991. Paolo Dall'Oglio (born November 17, 1954) is an Italian Society of Jesus, Jesuit priest and peace activist. He was exiled from Syria by the government in 2012 for meeting with members of the opposition and criticizing the alleged actions of the Syrian government during the Syrian civil war. He was kidnapped by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant on 29 July 2013. Before his kidnapping, he had served for three decades at the Monastery of Saint Moses the Abyssinian, Deir Mar Musa Al-Abashi, a 6th-century monastery north of Damascus. He has been credited with the reconstruction of the Mar Musa complex and its reinvention as a centre of interfaith dialogue. The Pontifical Mission Societies, known in some countries as Missio, is the name of a group of Catholic missionary societies that are under the jurisdiction of the Pope. These organizations include the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St. Peter the Apostle, the Holy Childhood Association and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. These four societies each received the title “pontifical” in 1922 to indicate their status as official instruments of the pope and of the universal Catholic Church.
