Popfrenzy
Popfrenzy is an independent record label and touring-events agency created by Chris Wu based in Sydney, Australia. They began in the late 1990s, putting on various underground parties/nights. Between 2000 and 2006, they booked such Sydney clubs and venues as the Spanish, Mandarin, Taxi and Teachers Clubs. Around 2003, Popfrenzy started to bring overseas acts to Australia as well establishing their own record label. The first two releases were from Camera Obscura and Les Savy Fav. They also started and ran an independent record store between mid-2005 and mid-2006 in Surry Hills, Sydney, called Gifted Records. Institut Polaire
Institut Polaire were an indie band originating from Perth, Western Australia. History Institut Polaire formed as a three piece in 2004 by an American ex-pat (Erik Hecht), an English born scientist (David Thirkettle-Watts) and a country boy moved to the big city (Ash Blakeney; who left the band in 2005, handing over his role to cousin Ben). Institut Polaire has grown from three piece roots into a full-blown collective who currently number between seven and nine members toting everything from vintage Wurlitzer pianos to violins, banjos, trumpets, MacBooks, and glockenspiels. In recent times, the collective have shared the stage with acclaimed artists and bands including Camera Obscura, The Clientele, Architecture in Helsinki, Jens Lekman, Lou Barlow, Gerling, New Buffalo, Starky, The Panics, and The Lucksmiths. Times New Viking
Times New Viking is an American lo-fi indie rock band from Columbus, Ohio. The lineup consists of guitarist Jared Phillips, drummer Adam Elliott, and Beth Murphy on keyboards. Murphy and Elliott share vocal duties. Their name, "Times New Viking," is a play on the popular typeface Times New Roman. They have released five albums: 2005's ''Dig Yourself'', 2007's ''Present the Paisley Reich'', and 2008's ''Rip It Off'', which ''NME'' gave an 8/10, and 2009's ''Born Again Revisited''. ''Rip it Off'' reached No. 17 on the ''Billboard'' Heatseekers chart. The band was formerly signed to Siltbreeze and Matador Records. Wire (band)
Wire are an English rock band, formed in London in October 1976 by Colin Newman (vocals, guitar), Graham Lewis (bass, vocals), Bruce Gilbert (guitar) and Robert Grey (drums). They were originally associated with the punk rock scene, appearing on ''The Roxy London WC2'' album, and were later central to the development of post-punk, while their debut album ''Pink Flag'' was influential for hardcore punk. Patrick Wolf
Patrick Wolf (born Patrick Denis Apps; 30 June 1983) is an English singer-songwriter from South London. Wolf uses a wide variety of instruments in his music, most commonly the ukulele, piano, and viola. He is known for combining electronic sampling with classical instruments. Wolf's styles range from electronic pop to Baroque chamber music. Biography Patrick Wolf was born in St Thomas' Hospital, South London. He attended King's College School and Bedales School. Xiu Xiu
Xiu Xiu ( ) is an American experimental band, formed in 2002 by singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart in San Jose, California. Currently, the line-up consists of Stewart (the only constant member since formation) and Angela Seo. The band's name comes from the film '' Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl'', which has influenced the sound of their music, according to Stewart. Xiu Xiu released their first two albums, ''Knife Play'' (2002) and ''A Promise'' (2003) on 5 Rue Christine to positive critical reception. In-between the two, the EP ''Chapel of the Chimes'' was released via Absolutely Kosher. Slow Club
Slow Club were an English duo formed in Sheffield in 2006. The band consisted of multi-instrumentalists Charles Watson and Rebecca Lucy Taylor, with Watson contributing piano, Taylor contributing drums, and both performing guitar and vocals. The band split in 2017 following an extensive tour to support their last album, with both members moving on to solo projects. History Slow Club formed in 2006 following the dissolution of the indie-rock band The Lonely Hearts The band released two 7" singles in 2007, "Because We're Dead" and "Me and You", on Moshi Moshi Records.
