Pop Mechanix
Pop Mechanix is a New Zealand-based pop music band that played in New Zealand and Australia from 1979 to 1988. Their single "Jumping out a Window" reached number 87 of the all-time top 100 singles for APRA NZ, and number 12 in the all-time top 50 singles for The Press Pop Mechanix was involved in a precedent-setting lawsuit. An Australian band, Popular Mechanics, sued WEA, the Pop Mechanix record label, over the use of their name in the Australia. Popular Mechanics won the case, forcing Pop Mechanix to change their name, first to NZ Pop, and then to Zoo. The band eventually returned to New Zealand, where they continued to work as Pop Mechanix. APRA Awards (New Zealand)
The APRA Music Awards are several annual and two-yearly award ceremonies run in New Zealand by Australasian Performing Right Association to recognise songwriting skills, sales and airplay performance by its members. APRA hold the annual Silver Scroll Awards and song awards, selects an inductee into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame, and makes three professional development awards every second year. APRA also runs awards for its Australian members. Montana are an Australian indie pop band. They released two albums internationally – ''Bubblegum Love'' (2001) and ''Starsign: Tarantula'' (2006). History Montana formed in Sydney in 1997 and in the following year they issued a self-titled extended play with five tracks including "Koolest Band" on Velvet Sound Recordings. Andrew Snoid (born Andrew McLennan) is a New Zealand musician, singer, and songwriter. He was featured in bands such as The Plague, The Whizz Kids, Blam Blam Blam (briefly), Pop Mechanix, The Swingers, and Coconut Rough. Snoid is best remembered as the writer and singer of the Coconut Rough song ''Sierra Leone'', which was a big domestic hit in 1983, staying in the charts for 17 weeks. Failsafe Records is a record label that was founded in 1984 in Christchurch, New Zealand. It started a long line of releases, including a chain of compilations that featured many artists (notably JPSE, Double Happys, Nocturnal Projections and Loves Ugly Children) who later appeared on Flying Nun Records, major labels, or other larger indies.
