Pop's Ultimate Star
''Pop's Ultimate Star'' was TV2's reality television show which pits former reality contestants againest each other, most of whom are former ''NZ Idol'' contestants. The show was produced by Eyeworks Touchdown, with first prize $50,000 and a Kia 'Rio' car. It is hosted by Dominic Bowden and was originally scheduled to be held in the St. James Theatre in Auckland. After damage to the St. James theatre the show was shifted to the Bruce Mason theatre before finally relocating to TVNZ's Avalon studio in Wellington. Originally, public voting occurred from the performance show on Sunday, where the eventual two contestants who have the lowest public votes will then be in a "sing off" on Wednesday, where the judges eliminated one contestant. After week five, TVNZ changed the format and a contestant was eliminated in the Sunday night show by the judges after the two with the lowest number of public votes were chosen. TVNZ 2 ( mi, Te Reo Tātaki Rua) is the second New Zealand television channel owned and operated by the state-owned broadcaster Television New Zealand (TVNZ). It targets a younger audience than its sister channel, TVNZ 1. TVNZ 2's line up consists of dramas, comedies, and reality TV shows. Matthew Saunoa
Matthew Saunoa (born 1986) is a New Zealand pop music, pop singer who rose to musical fame as the winner of the third season of ''New Zealand Idol'' in 2006. After winning the New Zealand Idol (season 3), third season, his winner's single, "Hold Out (Matthew Saunoa song), Hold Out" topped the New Zealand Singles Chart, however it did not secure Saunoa an album contract with Sony Music. Saunoa did not release any further music independently, and in result experienced disappointment and periods of depression. Saunoa later appeared on ''Pop's Ultimate Star'', and has since moved to the Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast, Australia with his family, where he joined a band. Rosita Vai
Rosita Vai (born 4 June 1981) is a New Zealand singer who rose to musical fame as the winner of the second season of ''New Zealand Idol'' in 2005. Now married, she is also known as Rosita Gibbons. Prior to her win, Rosita managed to stay out of the "bottom three" placings for the entire competition, the only contestant to have done so in the history of ''NZ Idol''. Steve Broad
Steve James Broad (born 29 January 1986) is a New Zealand singer and radio presenter, known for coming 5th on the second season of the New Zealand edition of ''The X Factor'' and 3rd on the second season of ''New Zealand Idol''. He was elected to the Invercargill City Council in 2023. Early life Broad was born in Invercargill in 1986, growing up on a sheep farm. As a teen he worked at H & J Smith. Ben Lummis (born Isileli Junior Brown on (1 June 1978) is a New Zealand R&B/Pop/Gospel recording artist who rose to musical fame as the winner of the First season of ''New Zealand Idol'' in 2004.
